I’ve been looking for a truck for a few months now and I finally found one in my price range with one of the few engines I wanted that is super clean. My criteria were 3/4 or 1 ton (we tow an 8000lb boat and my old F150 wasn’t cutting it), crew cab, 4x4, and either diesel or big block. Most everything diesel was far more than I wanted to pay and most everything older was rusted to crap being in the midwest. Finally I found this monster. 2000 Chevy K3500 crew cab dually with 454 less than 100k miles and probably the cleanest C/K truck in the midwest (seriously, I had a hard time finding any rust). Now I didn’t really need a dually or a long bed, but it ticked all the right boxes for the right price. One question for you guys though, we have started calling the truck Yoshi, because A) Yoshi is Mario’s ride and B)Yoshi is a dinosaur/monster/beast, but my wife wants me to get personalized plates saying Yoshi on it. Yay or nay on the plates? I’m torn on it because I’m a cheap-ass who doesn’t want to spend the extra money on it lol.

That is an awesome find!!! I love it! Very jelly am I.

I personally don’t like to give away the bit of anonymity you lose by getting personalized plates.

You were very very lucky to find a clean c/k in that condition anywhere near salt. Seriously, put a good bit of money into just keeping it rustproofed (oil spraying, por15, whatever you prefer) because you could potentially drive this thing for 50k miles or more and if its still that clean you can sell it for minimal loss. Those things will be VERY rare in good condition soon.

If I had money id go down south and pick up old trucks and SUVs all day and hoard them to sell to northerners when theyve all rusted out.

Yea, I’m planning on storing it during the winter since it’s so clean and just keeping my F150 as the winter beater.

I also dream of flying down to AZ or the southwest somewhere buying an old truck, car, and a trailer bringing them back and selling them for a decent profit. Wash, rinse and repeat. It’d be fun.

It is. It’s like 2-3 ft longer than my old extended cab F150

That vortec 7400 is an interesting engine, it never feels powerful but it always has enough and the good news is that it gets decent tow mileage...which is the same as empty mileage.

Good call, just keep it as a warm weather tow rig. Any pictures of the boat by the way?

I know a couple vehicles you could make a killing doing that on. I know 4runner guys in the northeast and midwest would kill for some 1st and 3rd gen trucks with zero rust. Same goes for Bronco fans, almost impossible to find a good one up in the northeast. For myself id just pick up a 2 door tahoe and call it a day.

That’s exactly how the guy I bought it from described it. He said it never feels fast, even when empty, but you never feel like anything you’re towing is slowing you down either.

I somehow missed that post, but nice boat, too. Four Winns did some good stuff building those boats that wasn’t common at the time, like wiring done well. Towing that boat with your new truck should usually be a matter of setting the cruise control at the desired speed and checking the mirrors to make sure it is still back there. Only the steepest of hills ought to be noticed.

I had a ‘97 CK1500 until michigan winters ground it to dust. That was a good truck.

Don’t spend the money on the plates. Get a large decal for the tailgate. You’ve got a lot of real estate there. 12" ones are like $13 on Amazon.
