It’s always difficult your first time, but it’ll get easier. Just push through it. The bark is hard, but remember; you are harder. Don’t worry about the pain and bleeding the first few months, that’s normal. Once the calluses form you won’t go soft ever again, and the pain will end about 9 months after that.

After five years of diligent practice whittling a nice tight hole in the trunk, you’ll be set. You won’t even need lube after the sixth year, as the natural water and sap secretions will be enough, though be prepared to give it your all each time after that, because that’s what it will take to feel anything through all the calluses.

DON’T PICK ANOTHER TREE! It’s tempting, but don’t. Even post callus phallus, you’re years away from getting a new tree to the point you were with the old one.

The trick is just don’t quit. I’ve been working on my house since 2014, all my vacations are working on the house, most nights and almost all weekends. This summer it’s my landscaping and want to make my second bathroom(ceramic floors/ceramic shower, install toilet, plumbing.... and I have to fabricate a plow attachment for my side-by-side. These are my goals

Starting something is easy the easy part. So yes I feel like that often. When I started my major renovations I felt so overwhelmed it’s incredible. But i’m a stubborn son of a bitch who doesn’t give up easily.

Small steps at a time.

If feeling overwhelmed by the scope of a big project break it down into manageable, small, steps/goals. Then work at the one at a time, at a pace you like, until done. Now you can track your progress and feel accomplished at every small step forward. You’d be amazed at how many small steps you can take and when you look back your like “eh, that wasn’t that hard”.
