Woah, it’s actually an honest posting with more than one photo? AND it doesn’t contain some smartass statement about how you know what you’ve got?

This clearly doesn’t belong on Craigslist.

Yeah me too. I’m a little sentimental since it was my first car. Still, I get to find me a new car.

What’s going on with the driver’s seat? What do you mean by “the transmission isn’t working”? Will it not shift out of park, or if you can choose R, N, D, nothing simply happens?

Just trying to think of a couple areas you may want to clarify so you get fewer questions to answer.

Honestly, the car looks nice - if you were local and if research proved a six-speed manual swap wasn’t terrible, I’d take a look at it :).

I don’t really dig the angled photos, but I’m only saying that because you asked for a rating and I need something to pick on.. Everything else is good! I imagine you’ll get loads of people asking dumb stuff like what’s wrong with the transmission? Price seems right. I support what you’re doing.

Needs moar caps, less honesty, and fewer but blurrier pictures. Also the price is too low. It should be at least $5k because you know what you got.

The only things I’d change is; Instead of 20k on the tires put the % of life left(or an estimate.) For people like me (who would also consider buying something like this) 20k on the tires could mean there gonna be toast soon, putting the % is direct about how much they have left to give. And I’d remove the thing about brake fluid because it detracts from the cars desirability(by sounding like an issue) when its a very minor thing. The idea would be to either just not explain that at all or explain it in person where it can be conveyed how minor it is.

Kinja'd!!! "TheHondaBro" (wwaveform)
08/10/2017 at 16:24, STARS: 0

So if they’re 60,000 mile tires, I say they’re about 30-33% worn, or they have 67-70% left?

Also, I should remove the brake fluid thing, you’re right. Thanks!

Don’t know. Probably a private party GS300 or some CPO Toyota.

I’d put 70%, if they want to argue that point whatever they’ll have to do it in person. It’s been my experience buying and selling on CL that once they are there in person the chances of them buying is pretty good, the hard part is getting there.

Those are just seat covers. I should probably add the transmission codes that the shop gave me, would that be a good idea?

Kinja'd!!! "benjrblant" (benjblant)
08/10/2017 at 16:36, STARS: 0

Yes, anything you can add to help identify the mechanical issue would help to prove that you’re not using the transmission failure as a scapegoat for other problems.

Kinja'd!!! "Arrivederci" (arrividerci)
08/10/2017 at 16:37, STARS: 0

Okay - makes sense. The seat cover didn’t look form fitting, but the color was right, so I wasn’t sure. Transmission codes would probably be super helpful to someone who’d try and wrench it, and maybe a description of the behavior for everyone else.

If you’re looking for feedback, it’s the most unnecessarily verbose listing for a parts car I’ve ever seen. No one who wants a parts car is reading all that, and I really doubt anyone who wants a parts car cares how old the serpentine belt is.

Keep it simple. “AS-IS. V6 Accord Coupe, having transmission issues so for parts/repair only. Also has small oil pump leak. Car is in excellent condition aside from the two issues, no dents, paint is clean, interior is in great condition, service records for _____ available.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with the transmission, it could be a simple fix or could need a replacement. Perform your own due diligence, I just want to move on.”

Because if that doesn’t fix the problem, I’m stuck with a 3,300 lb doorstop and less money in my pocket.

One thing jumps out at me. When I see “for parts”, I think the car is a junker. That might drive off some people who might otherwise be interested. I might change “for parts/repair only” to something like “needs transmission work” or even leave that out of the title. Otherwise, it’s accurate and succinct. Well done.

I appreciate the feedback, but I find that putting as much information into the listing as possible helps to sell it faster and also attracts more potential buyers. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with putting more information into the listing. Removing the fluff is just going to lead to people questioning me left and right about various things.

Kinja'd!!! "notsomethingstructural" (notsomethingstructural)
08/10/2017 at 17:03, STARS: 1

Fair enough. I generally find that buyer interest is proportional to asking price. If you’re asking a lot for the car (or in general) they appreciate that. If you’re trying to unload it fast and cheap, the bargain hunting idiots on craigslist are either gonna skip the text and ask you the same questions anyways, or just skip dealing with you. That’s my experience, YMMV.

08/10/2017 at 17:06, STARS: 0

Not much if you get it from a junkyard, it’ll probably be like $30 tops. But if it does fix the problem you can either sell it for a lot more or keep it.

I’d rather see a well described as than one which is short and leaves out important information, even for a parts car.

Problems I found:

You didn’t put your finger over the plates.

Pictures are not blurry enough.

The car is wayyy too clean.

Too much good information in the add. It should just be: “Ran when parked. Serious offers only.” followed by a million tag words.

Oh, you wanted serious responses?

Depending on thorough you want to be and avoid answering questions I would probably add a picture of the tires with a penny in the tread, and do all four. I would also consider adding pictures of the repair orders of important info like the trans diagnosis and timing belt.

Also, do you know if you as the seller are responsible for getting a smog inspection done before selling it? In California, you as the seller are required to smog it before and if you don’t you can open yourself up to a lawsuit. It may be different if you clearly state the problems with it, but I’m not sure.
