I’m taking a month off to drive from New Hampshire to Colorado, with the goal of spending a few weeks exploring the rockies. My general plan is to wander around camping & driving trails. I’ve never been there before, and with the exception of a few days for a wedding I have no set in stone plans, so I come to the oppo hive mind for suggestions on extra cool places to see or hidden camping spots I have to check out.

So far I’ve been using google earth pro + traildamage.com to gather up GPS tracks & routes to later use as a map for bouncing from area to area. But if anyone knows some particularly cool places to go I’d love input!

When are you expecting to be in the area?

Time of year will dictate a lot of what’s open and accessible.

I’ll probably arrive on the 19th-20th, but after the 26th I will be free to roam at-will

Not really a trail, but Pike’s Peak is worth a drive. Not too difficult, and my view was ruined by weather, but still worth the few hours. Those drops are real.

But it’s also awesome to go from 100* in the plains of Kansas to <40* sleet on top of the mountain.

Hm.... You could almost run CO full circle, start out in the foothills, work your way west via Nederland, kingston peak. There’s some great wheeling, biking, and camping in Western CO around Grand Junction, Grand Mesa NF. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is pretty sweet, then head south to Ouray and Silverton, hit Black Bear and Imogene, south to Durango, then back East to Pagosa Springs, Great Sand Dunes and over Music Pass.

I’m booked until probably Sept 9th and again until Sept 23 if you’re still around. My better half (also from NH) and I would be down to run some trails if your schedule lines up.

You have see RMNP, and drive Trail Ridge Road. You can go up Pikes Peak, and back down in 3-4 hrs depending how long you stay at the top.

Yup. And it’s not like we don’t post on the same forums or nothing like that.
