Service department hasn’t had time to drop the transmission, but they are fairly certain it’s the throwout bearing as well, but they won’t know for sure until tomorrow. In the mean time they are setting me up with a loaner car of some kind. Hopefully it’s something decent.

Too many transmission problems around here.

The BRZ throwout bearing has a bunch of plastic and is a weak point. The good news is that they are pretty easy to change.

Forester XT loaner! (Actually, I’m curious about the new Imprezas if you end up with one of those.)

Yeah I’ve spent the day catching up on them on the forums. I just hope they cover it through the warranty, but it seems like there’s a 50/50 chance of that happening. Going to probably throw in a better aftermarket one when I do the clutch and flywheel upgrades I’m planning, but that’s still about a year out.

I’ll do a write-up about whatever I get. I’m hoping for a WRX, but that will never happen.

I’m sure mine will outlast the warranty, then explode. The good news is that I have a friend with a lift who’s already done the repair once. There wasn’t a great alternative to stock when my friend had to redo his; however, that was a year ago and I haven’t looked into the new options.

I normally do all the work on my own or with a friend, this just happened spontaneously so I brought it to Subaru to get it fixed. From when I was talking with one of the service reps there it sounds like it should be covered through the warranty, if it is it couldn’t have happened at a better time since I’ve only got about 1000 miles left.
