So I’ve been riding a Triumph Sprint ST 955 for four years now. A friend of mine wants to start riding, so I’m highly considering selling him the Triumph. That means I’ll need a new bike, and there are too many ADV bike to pick. Help!

Sat on it, liked it. Really liked that it was much cheaper than a Ducati Multistrada or BMW GS.

Didn’t like the fact that there is no center stand, and I’d immediately have to spend money on hard boxes. But since it’s cheaper, that’s not a problem...

I’d like the idea of a dual-sport ADV bike... but I can’t have two bikes, and I like lazy touring cruiserbikes too much.

What kinda adventure are you looking for?

Option 1: Versys 1000. Good street manners, sporty, can do gravel-ish roads, long distance, relatively cheap. Good luggage capacity.

Option 2: CRF250L Rally. Very cheap. Slow as dirt. Great off road. Limited luggage capacity, so gotta pack light.

Option 3: Aprilia Tuono V4. From a strictly factual perspective, the Aprilia V4 is the best motorcycle engine available today, especially when combined with an obnoxiously loud exhaust (and race ECU upgrade). Therefore you are doing a dis-service to yourself by not at least considering one. It’s pretty much terrible for all things ADV. It’s also best suited to be ridden in a manner that is considered “unsafe” and “irresponsible.” It will encourage you to do dumb stuff, while going wayyy too fast. Really, based on what you said, it’s a terrible choice. Which is what makes it the best choice.

I’ve had my KTM 1190 adventure for two years and put 30k on it and couldn’t be happier

So don’t pick one. Get a Daytona 675.

I’m looking for something with an upright seat position (as opposed to the semi canted position on my sport tourer), but can still carry more than just a backpack. Also, since I’m up in the North GA Mountains, being able to deal with a maintained dirt road is good (if it needs knobby tires, and nothing else, that’s a plus)

I have a long inseam, so having my legs not doubled up is a plus.

Finding a dealer for KTM is a challenge in Atlanta (KTM lists *one*). But the 1190 Adventure is the class of bike I’m looking at.

I have a test ride of a Triumph Tiger 800 XC and a BMW R1200GS tomorrow. I’m going to call the Ducati/Honda dealer to see if I can set up test rides of the Multistrada Enduro and the Africa Twin.

I already have a sport tourer (with the 955cc triple). This is basically more of the same, and if I go that route, I’ll just keep the Sprint ST and not get anything.

I’m not ready to be my father. Unless I’m looking at a Victory Vegas or an Indian Chieftain.

The multi enduro is sick. But it’s HUGE and looks a bit unwieldy...

I was talking with an africa twin owner the other day- he said the AT is essentially a “bigger KLR.” He explained that like a KLR, the bike can do anything, but it’s kind of “soul-less”... (his words)

I was at the Denver Duc dealership recently checking out a Multi enduro, but the bike that caught my eye and my jaw drop was the new Desert Sled.

I’ve got a DOPE gs bike (‘94 Duc Elefant 900) that I daily drive, and LOVE. But the only bike I think that would make that thing sit in the garage and collect dust, would be the Desert Sled. Seriously. It’s sick. That’s what I’d suggest checking out...!

Tiger 1050. No offroad pretenses what so ever. Just a speed triple on stilts and wind protection.

Ninja 1000 honorable mention.

IIRC R-GS models are currently under recall for fork separation/stanchion failure and you can’t buy one (new)

details on issue

I’m 6'4" and very broad, so I can horse a 580lb (wet, ready to ride) bike around (Because I’ve horsed heavier cruisers that my father owns around)

The MS Enduro isn’t that much wider than a standard Multistrada, but the panniers *are* wide. That’s what throws most pictures off.

Yeah, I saw that. Supposedly it only happens under severe off-roading conditions. Press-in fittings can be questionable at times.

I wasn’t saying you couldn’t wield it.. just that it’s a lot of bike to be bashing around in the backcountry with.... But perhaps around atlanta there’s not that much off-road stuff to be had... but still, check out the desert sled....!

I got a chance to ride a Multi Enduro. It’s no more unwieldy than my Sprint ST or the R1200GSA.

I basically now have to choose between the BMW waterboxer and the Ducati L twin... The Ducati demo bike I rode is actually cheaper than the BMW, but I want both of them...

So Ducati or BMW?

I’ve got an old Beemer and Ducati. I’d go Ducati.
