Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday I succumbed and traded my 87 Cherokee in for a better Winter beater. This swanky wagon has full time AWD, six disk cd changer, luke-warm AC, heated seats, three rows of seats and I’m going to keep it until after winter most likely. it’s beat to hell, creaks, groans, pops, and drives like a dream. I haven’t owned a vehicle this nice since my 99 Grand cherokee.

Pacific Weiss will be joined by my work DD a 1998 Mercury sable.

Ask me anything

it’s beat to hell, creaks, groans, pops...

that’s how they came from the factory

But it supposedly drives like a dream. Did they leave the factory that way too?

This will turn in to a roasting thread.

that’s only cause it’s his first car newer than a 1998 sable

I never took my Jeep offroad... It was loud, harsh, thirsty for no reason and slow for no reason.

This is more my speed, bigger and more fuel efficient. And it was an equal trade so.

Chances are the mecury sable will out last the Pacifica

Remove the “chances are” from your sentence and you will have a valid point

Nice! How’s the mileage on it? And is the 3rd row comfortable?

I filled it up when I got it yesterday and it still reads full, the third row I got in last week when we were talking about trading. my 6 foot self isn’t comfortable back there unless you move the second row up a bit.

How’s the front crossmember? Those are noted to rot away.

At first glance it’s fine. I’m going to have to get it on a lift to really see what it’s like. especially since mine isn’t in the Feb-march window of the recall coverage. it was built the previous year.

If it has the NAV in the cluster have Doug Demuro drive it. He thinks they’re a new invention.

Or it’s not equipped. There is a big black space that looks like a screen goes there... either way it stays black.

My dad had a few for demo’s when they were new. Really nice vehicles back then actually. I always liked them.

I think thats how it was when it wasn’t equipped as well. Too bad, that was a nice feature. Also liked how the speedo needle changed from MPH to KPH.

If NAV isn’t equipped that screen is blank, so maybe no NAV?

i liked them back then too, but lets face it, it’s a Chrysler, they are not exactly known for quality products

I don’t hate those. They seem to have aged well and I still see plenty of them around. They look good in black with chrome wheels (most Chryslers do now that I think about it. Maybe it’s intentional?)

My aunt bought one of these new in 2005, put something crazy like 50,000 miles on it. She barely drove it, then traded it on a new crv.

Nope, it equipped. The dash cluster was required onto its own circuit by the first owner at some point so only the essential gauges work.

And actually yea, it shows how much better cars got over time. My 2004 Pacifica drives 10x much better than my 1998 Mercury. Go figure.

That’s excellent! Those are nice vehicles, seems like they are the same platform MB used for the R class. We had one in our shop and we ended up having to swap the crossmember. Not for the faint of heart, glad yours is good.

It technically still ran. The person who bought it from me went into debt getting it back on the road and had to sell it...
