Kinja'd!!!

My mum put this picture up on Facebook. That’s the Maxima, being sent off to wherever crap cars go after being sold. I should probably be more sad about it: this is the car I passed (and failed) every driver’s license exam in, what I drove on an epic road trip to Ottawa and Montreal, and what I did a lot of driving in.

However, it became a bit of a rust bucket, and to replace the windshield and suspension would have been more than the car was worth. So, it’s gone. And what’s replaced it?

A new CR-V. Only seven kilometres on it when my mum bought it. I’ll give an Oppo review of it whenever I head back to Toronto (probably not until the end of the year). But my mum is happy, and that’s what matters.

In other news, that’s another person who has bought a new car that isn’t me. Oh well. My girlfriend’s Elantra GT is good for the time being.

They go to a farm where they get to play in the fields with other shitty cars.

Hm. That sounds rad, but not for the car.

Yeah, those Maximas are garbage. I have a 4th gen that’s only slightly less shitty. The best part is the radiator support

I feel like you’ve warned me about the radiator support before.

But seriously, when it all worked, it was fantastic. I’ll miss it, but it’s for the best that it goes.

Your mom made a fantastic choice on the new CRV! Those things are class leading for sure!!

I rode in one on the test drive, and it was solid. Not something I’d buy, but for someone who doesn’t want any problems, it should be good for her.

What!? Nooo, all Maximas must be preserved for future generations.

A friend had a pre-facelift version of that Maxima with the V6....when it was in decent shape, that thing WENT. I remember driving it once and the brake pedal was touchy as hell. Otherwise, theirs started to get too rusty to repair as well and the suspension eventually got too worn. They traded it in on a 2010 Kia Forte sedan which has been very reliable for them and it’s their second car. They recently bought a brand new Kia Optima, which is actually VERY nice!

Can confirm, it sure as hell went quicker than a car that size should. I enjoyed on ramps.

It was also surprisingly planted and capable....my friend who owned it was in college at the time (now married with a kid and his own home, good job, etc) and was a little low on money. I remember being with him and his then-girlfriend (now wife) in that Maxima in the middle of your stereotypical Nova Scotia ‘holy shit’ snowstorm/blizzard on fairly bald all-season tires and we managed to get from one side of Halifax all the way to the other unscathed passing stuck SUVS and trucks...he was being methodical, fairly slow and safe, mind you, but considering the tires, that thing was a tank in that storm!

great choice, although i’m still not sold on the idea of an overboosted Fit engine in a CRV.
