You know what I really hate about Apple?

I cannot disable their fucking music app. For the last few years, it has had a shitty, awful navigation, and since the Beatles are on Spotify, I don’t really need my own music any more. But every time my phone connects to Bluetooth, that fucker starts playing Tribe, or Ella, or The Yardbirds.

Or I’m in a situation like I am now, where I’m listing to Family Affair by Mary J. Blige and I click a YouTube video and then go back to bring up the music playback controls, but that fucker has defaulted to the Music App and songs that I do not even have downloaded on my phone.

I have disabled every single thing I could disable, signed out of everything I could sign out of, and restricted every parental restriction I could restrict, but I still have to deal with this fucking hateration up in my dancerie .

I wish it would let you back up without going through iTunes, or iCloud. iTunes has been awful to use and cumbersome for my computer for a long time now, and I just use Spotify and Google Play, but if I ever want to update my phone, I have to go through 3 or 4 hours of fighting with iTunes to get it to back up my phone. You’d think an iPhone, plugged into a Mac, using an Apple program would be easier to work with.

Not. Yet.

I will stand by Apple for having the best UI for file management and being the most efficient of any OS. But I am confident that they will fuck that up, because they seem bent on fucking everything up.

I haven’t had an issue with my iPhone doing that.

Of course I’ve also been resisting updating to iOS 10 since, like, when did it come out, almost a year ago?

Unless I leave Pandora or Audible open, my phone does the same thing. If one of those are open, it picks up right where it left off.

iTunes can die in a fire, but I’m still okay with iCloud for backups. Parts of my phone’s back up date to 2008, and it still works okayish.

Every time I take my phone to an Apple Store the techs suggest starting from a fresh erase and I’m like “yeah... after 9 years, the moment I erase everything and start over again is the moment I stop buying iPhones.”

I’d love to go back to a time when the music player didn’t suck, but I think that was probably IOS 6

uh Finder is a clusterfuck to use, especially when dealing with MULTIPLE windows or instances

I disagree. Option+Command+N adding all files to a new folder is the best thing ever. Combined with Coverflow for image files and Preview for previewing media, Finder can do no wrong.

And before Windows STOLE IT, Spaces and having multiple desktops was the most incredible thing ever.

Existing with iOS 6 would be difficult. Finding and installing legacy apps is annoying.

I find the music player not too frustrating. But I also very much miss my 3rd gen iPod nano. It was the perfect size, and worked so nicely, with such simplicity. But it sadly is no more. I was home from school for a weekend, and without consulting me my mom picked up a pair of pants off my floor and threw it in the wash. They weren’t even dirty, I’d only worn them for the five-hour drive home. And they had my iPod in the pocket... It went through the washer and dryer. Soaked and still might have worked after drying, but the heat from the dryer delaminated everything.

I love my MacBook, but every time I’m using the Google Play web player with heapdhones in and I use the headphone remote, it opens iTunes by default and there’s no way to disable it. Apple commits very few annoying design sins except when it’s in the favor of their own apps, no matter how obnoxious.

Apple’s insistence on preferring their shitty apps have completely changed my view on those EU lawsuits against Googleand Microsoft that I once thought were frivolous.

I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy music as much as I did on my second gen Nano.

This is why I have Android mobile devices. Specifically unlocked ones on a cheap prepaid plan. I have a 2 year old Moto X Pure Edition that cost $400 and still works fine, my wife has a new Moto G5 Plus that was $230, and we pay $80.75/month all-in for 12 GB for both our phones on the Verizon network thru Total Wireless.

I like my Mac but I can’t even remember how many times I had to reset my damn Apple ID password because I never use any Apple services but Cloud Drive or whatever wants me to re-log in.

Pro tip for anyone who cares: you can get an unlocked ZTE Axon 7, one of last year’s flagship Android phones (Snapdragon 820, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage, 5.5” high res screen, metal body, assorted high-quality audio gimmicks, compatible with all networks including Verizon) for $369 at Newegg . I just had my non-techy sister buy one and she loves it.

I’d buy one myself but my phone still works fine.

I’d switch ships, but Apple still does integration too well. Things like streaming to my Apple TV and sending files from my phone to my Mac would be hard to give up.

My main TV streaming device is a Roku 4. It streams media from my Mac using Plex. Unfortunately its screen mirroring is done thru Miracast which Mac doesn’t support, but I also have a Chromecast. I don’t really do screen mirroring much anyway. I use Pushbullet for syncing files, notifications and text messages across my devices.

For me, the future arrived when I could start playing music out of my stereo while unlocking my front door. I don’t know I can ever give that up.

And here I am relegated to having to press a button on my Harmony remote to turn my stereo on before I can stream music to it. Maybe there’s some kind of home automation gizmo I could set up to accomplish what you described, if desired.

I love Spotify. I want to take it out behind the middle school and get it pregnant. I make no apologies!
