Noooo! I had the great pleasure of playing with Glen Campbell when he performed with the Austin Symphony. Even at age 70, women were coming to the stage with bouquets for him. He was one hell of a guitar player and the consummate showman. Working with him was one of the highlights of my career. When I was a kid, Glen Campbell was AM radio for me. I had a little red transistor radio that I carried around, and a GC song was almost always being played. He will be missed.

I wasn’t even really aware of how involved he was in so many groups. It’s crazy. Talk about a man who was never bored.

I saw Glen Campbell play live in Glasgow a couple of times. Both times were at the tail end of his career and the second one in particular was post the Alzheimer’s diagnosis so at times it was difficult to watch him struggle to remember lines or what he was supposed to do next. And yet, he still held it together as a showman, a performer and a good humoured person who had the audience well and truly on his side.
He didn’t lose that dexterity in his fingers either - he played amazing guitar solos (and sang beautifully) on both occasions. I feel quite privilleged to have seen him play. Sad he’s gone, but glad he doesn’t have to suffer that rotten disease anymore.
