Kinja'd!!!

Gary Bettman and the Russians have colluded on this round of the NHL and Olympic/International teams?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It’s one thing that players from Pro rosters currently seeing ice-time shouldn’t go, in his mind, due to insurance and other issues, but it’s entirely another for these poor schlubs trying to eke out a living playing their game and potentially getting an invite to compete for their country thanks to incompetent management of the big stars.

Every bad decision Bettman makes gives me a glimmer of hope that clubs, players or fans will finally give him the business he deserves, but the man is more resilient than a cockroach.

So I guess we’ll see a bunch of no-name Canadians and a bunch of College-aged US players take on the best of the KHL. Should make for great TV.

The NHL lives as a brilliant sport that soldiers on despite its management. They have done everything within their power to upset the apple cart and yet it’s still here.

I’m pretty sure that Gary Bettman’s life source is the hatred of fans. It’s the only logical explanation for all the terrible decisions he makes.

What gets me is that I feel like an old man, and that little weasel and his chromedome sidekick have been in their undeserved positions since before I could legally drive.

At least the game has opened up a little since the bad old days.

I’d like to see players defy the order en masse, and maybe a few of them have it dealt with via their “organized” representatives.

Naturally. Russia wants a medal and this is the only way they’ll get one. Bettman will do anything for money. Ovi going would be part of the deal, of course. YAY LET’S START A CONSPIRACY THEORY

In all seriousness though, Canada’s chances are not dead yet. There’s boatloads of talent that there simply has not been room for on NHL rosters yet, as well as players that seem too old and unwanted for the NHL that still are damn good players, but are too much of a long-term risk (eg Iginla). Goalies are a more pressing concern. The USA, I don’t know about. I’d think they have less chances of putting together a contender because hockey isn’t as popular as in Canada (percentage-wise, anyway) but sheer numbers mean they can probably pull it off. They’ve got some damn good young goalie to pick from, too.

At the end of the day, I want to see Russia lose. I want Ovi to go contrary to the NHL’s order and fail to produce. Obviously I have my preference for who I want to beat them, but at the end of the day I want to see them blow their best chance in DECADES to take home the gold.
