I just got back from a week long vacation and I have lots of work to do that I am unusually motivated to do... But... Our IT department required some “critical” super duper urgent updates and now my computer won’t startup at all.

So I’m sitting here again with a down computer after IT updates (happens a lot) watching my motivation slip away as I count down the time until I take my mom out to lunch to console her on breaking up with her boyfriend of 2 years. Yay!

Did I mention I wasn’t able to shower this morning because my shower head extension broke in half not long after my toilet flush chain broke?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Could be worse I suppose, life is still generally good.

No, you did not mention the shower. Or that you have a flush chain. Baller.

In my mind, this is an overhead pull down chain. Please don’t ruin it.

No offense at all to IT... Since I know their value, but a big corporation like ours means very little care goes into the individual machine vs system wide policy. Being somewhat unique in terms of machines has meant me and my group have always had struggles with IT

...if only users wouldn’t click ransomware emails

...if only the US gov would’t build malware tools without informing the operating system builders of how to patch enterprise environments.

Damned creatives and users, always blaming IT.

I still do. This is hardly the first time they’ve applied a broad solution to a unique problem and... Surprise! caused problems.

As a friendly IT guy I’ll tell you that they’re probably acting on orders from above and taking a bite out of the same shit sandwich you are.

And I totally, completely get that. However, it seems to be a “oh sorry that broke? Hmm.” Policy that requires me to get a second helping with another team. Did I mention we had to buy these niche machines out of our budget because our other compliant machines were rendered obsolete by policy updates we had no say in?

Speaking of showers, did you know they made showers you can take on your overland rig? I learned this.

Always paint with a fine brush for creatives, for they drive interest in the company thereby making the sales team make money therefore keeping the company going.

I almost got one for free from the guy who makes them, but his terms were a little sketchy so I decided not to mess with them. I used this last time and it was great!

a 10 liter dromedary bag and a small length of hose. Put the black bag on the roof while I drove and it got plenty warm for a shower in the evening. Swung out my hilift as a means to hang it and had a great shower.
