Hi all - dashcam pic time! Was on my way to work a few days ago and met this driving along Main Street of my hometown, Mahone Bay. It’s a pretty big tourist town, so it’s not surprising as I see Euro vehicles on occasion that have been shipped over for travel, but this was my first time seeing one in the flesh!

I know what it is, but can my fellow Oppos figure out what, in this picture, is out of place in a quiet North American small town? :P

The Dutch flag below the “Have a Yam” sign? That can’t be it, I saw Dutch flags with “Welcome” written on them quite often when I visited New England last year. Being a Dutch tourist it made me feel welcome.

Or is it the sizable and very American looking Ford pickup truck plus camper build on the left that’s unavailable and considered small and ‘euro’ in North America?

i’m guessing the Kenworth (i think?) maybe?

i’m interested to know if the Ranger is a 2.2 or 3.2?

The truck facing the wrong way?

(of course it is the Ranger, weird to see one without a front plate)

Ford Ranger that isn’t a North American variety of Ford Ranger.

I haven’t seen a Ranger here in Japser yet, but I’ve seen a couple Hiluxes, and all manner of euro vans, plus some beastly unimog-esque 4x4 RV’s.

Yup! We see Euro imports quite often here...usually RVs or pickups with RV boxes. I saw a VW Amarok last year!

Actually, this whole area has some very interesting and unique architecture! Look up Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada architecture sometime if you’re into that stuff! :)

Not supposed to be a Dutch flag, for some reason those three colors are just common on those Dollar-Store bought ‘Open’ flagsa lot of mom-and-pop shops use around here.

And yup, it’s the global Ranger we don’t get here. First time seeing one....I really wish smaller pickups were a thing. I am not a pickup guy at all, but the pickups from the ‘Big Three’ to me aren’t even pickups anymore...sure, they are capable, but they are so damn bloated now with all manner of luxuries and hell knows what and are all driven by soccer moms with obnoxious bumper stickers and decals. Base F150s start at $25K CAD plus tax, etc...even the base level commercial ‘work truck’ variants...

I miss the older trucks that were just ‘good ole trucks’...

The big rig is a Freightliner actually...it’s parked on that side of the road because there is nowhere else for it to offload supplies for the red/gold painted restaurant just down the street behind it, barely in view...main street of Mahone Bay is pretty tight during tourist season...

That’s around where I took the pic off my dashcam:

The Rangers were never sold here in this generation, so it was neat to see. I can’t recall what engine it was...just that I recall seeing a turbodiesel badge on that little black faux (assuming) vent on the side quarter panel. I THINK it said 3.2L?

I thought the lack of a front plate was odd as well...aren’t they required in Germany? I looked around as it went past as traffic was moving SLLLOOOWWLLY and saw that it had a German plate on the back, but none on the front...

Main Street of Mahone Bay is tight, so that big rig is there as there is nowhere else for it to fit to offload supplies for the red/gold restaurant behind it (all the parking lots were FULL that day, as were the sides of the street as a local tourist festival gig was going on then)...it pretty much stays that packed all the time during the summer tourist months...

It had German plates on the back, but no idea what part of Germany...

Not all streets/ roads in Nova Scotia are like this - on the contrary, more rural areas are open nothingness :P

...but Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are relatively old towns (the area was settled in the 1750s originally), so their infrastructure is old to boot...i.e. narrow streets in some places :)

You see it OK as you come up to it. They’ve been working on a side street just up from there for ages now as they have to completely replace some huge wastewater concrete piping...

Some of the less custom units will have other euro plates, although South Americans are more common. Argentina and Brazil in particular.
