Good news: Best. Birthday present. Ever. Getting them on, along with 3 inch aluminized pipes (with X-pipe- would prefer not to have one, but Dad wants to, and it’s supposed to help flow) dumping in front of the rear tires. It will absolutely shriek.

Now for the bad news: Kipper’s frame is cracked. Which is really depressing, I’ve formed a huge emotional attachment to it. It’s like finding out a friend got a terminal illness. You want to help, but there’s nothing you can do. It’s not bendy or anything, so I guess after I fix the brakes I’ll drive it until the frame snaps.

Maybe if there’s enough good metal on either side of that spot, it can be reinforced? My truck’s frame had some rot like that, and I found a shop that welded some new metal around it. Cost me about a hundred bucks.

And yeah you weren’t kidding about that brake line! Mine was like that too, before I replaced it.

In terms of H-pipe vs X-pipe it’s a matter of sound preference (I like an H-pipe) but some sort of crossover is better than none, power-wise. If you’re curious, I think there’s an episode of Engine Masters on youtube that does a comparison.

Perhaps! I’ll have to look into it.

You’re a Metro Detroit resident, right? Where’d you have your frame fixed? I don’t feel like screwing with it myself.

Yeah, the shop that did mine is a place called Avery’s up in Lapeer. They also welded in my Mustang’s subframe connectors. Took me a while to find someone willing to weld on a frame with 20+ years of Michigan rust haha. If you call around, you might be able to find a closer shop to do the work, but the one in Lapeer was close enough for me that I just didn’t feel like shopping around anymore. Plus, they were recommended by a friend.

If you’re interested, I can get you some pics of the weld job they did to my truck.

Actually, you don’t have to. Lapeer is an hour and a half away. I’ll have to find a closer place to do it.

Yeah, that is a bit of a hike (with construction all over the place right now, too). There’s gotta be another shop who can do it, so long as there’s enough good material to weld to.

I would imagine so.
