Kinja'd!!!

Hey Oppo, I’ve got an issue with a radio I bought and was wondering if anyone here might be able to help.

So, I bought my brother a radio for his 4Runner, some Blaupunkt touchscreen. He got it installed, works great, except it’s got no radio reception. Now, I bought the radio in the USA, my brother is in Central America. Installer says the issue is that the radio was meant to only work in USA.

Do radio frequencies work differently in other countries, and what could I do to help him get a working radio?

Radio stations work the same in Central America. Every head unit I’ve ever seen has an antenna input that is separate from the main wiring harness. My guess is that the antenna didn’t get plugged into the back of the radio during installation.

As Follow the trail said must be the antenna plug. Some need and adaptor to fit.

Central America and Mexico is in the same FM Band as the US 87.9-107.9 It’s not like Japan that uses at 75.1-95.9 So it should work. HD radio probably won’t but it should work on regular. Do his AM channels work they should definitely work. There is an international Agreement called the ITU that regulates that kind of thing North, Central, and South America are all in Region 2 they all use the spectrum. I think the installer broke his antenna.

check if you need to send power to the antenna. Blue wire if I remember right but look it up.

Thanks for the info, I’ll call him later and ask him to do a quick run through the radio and make sure the a.m stations work.
