They drive weird diesel hatchbacks here.

I tried to go inside to take pictures, but it’s Spain and they were all on their 3-hour siesta. Tried coming back at 4:30 when they supposedly reopen, but none of the employees returned. Come on guys, you’re not helping to dispel the stereotype of lazy Spaniards!

Fun fact, my final year thesis for my degree was a study of the aerodynamics of the VW XL1.

Where in Spain are you?

Barcelona for a week.

I’m genuinely surprised that VW is the only manufacturer to build a hyper-miler hybrid like the XL1. I guess the first-gen Honda Insight is the next closest thing.

Upon return and when telling of your wonderful travels you are required by law to say Spanish city names in a pedantic manner:

That thing is awesome. I also wish they mass-produced the sporty one that was powered by a Ducati motor.

Beautiful city and friendly people.

If you haven’t already, you gotta visit Parc Guell, the views over the city are amazing.

Bonus points if you can find this giant lobster.

What about the I8? In reality it gets 35 mpg but it has the same idea as the xl1

Oops, I forgot about the i8.

If only VW grew some balls and made the wacky Ducati-powered XL Sport Concept:

Excuse me, Mr. Sir, but I believe it’s pronounced with an aggressive lisp.

But also with a lot of emphasis on the first syllabus, as if you were a bull-fight commentator.

It’s Saturday, you’re in Spain and it’s in the middle of Summer. Did you really expect them to man a car dealership on Saturday afternoon?

Those Spaniards aren’t lazy, they’re doing something with their lives!

I was fooled by the Mon-Sat hours printed on their front door!

Classic mistake!

But seriously, they had Saturday afternoon on their door but weren’t there? That is shameful.

You also arrived during a massive European heatwave (either the Spanish or Italians) have called Lucifer.

The VW XL1 isn’t on sale yet as far as I’m aware.

Maybe also keep your head down a little.

You also arrived while there’s anti tourist sentiment as shops, hotels and transportation are upping their prices to get more out of tourists, it means the locals can’t afford to use them.

Also locals can’t afford to live where they would want as many of the prime locations have been taken rent to tourists.

The average wage is something like 1,000 euros a month while some of these places charge 800 euros a month in rent alone.

Thankfully it’s mostly in the north Catalan region but also other areas like Majorca.

You picked a hell of a time mate.

Best looking VW in a long time. It’s a shame they didn’t approve it for production.

I was so confused. The posted Saturday hours are 10:00am-1:30pm and 4:30pm-8:00pm.

I originally walked by during siesta, so I came back once at 4:45 and a second time at 5:30. Not a living soul inside the building. Maybe it’s a holiday I don’t know about?

Idk, I’ll keep trying the remainder of this week.
