my patented ”block of ice plus ice packs in a pot in front of a big fan” isn’t powerful enough to keep the heat at bay... How can I increase cooling power using common household items?

Ah, I used to do that in California. I remember the ice cubes melting at record rate and drinking the water because I was also thirsty.

I’m actually amazed at how quickly this block is melting. I can only imagine how much worse it would be with cubes, more surface area and whatnot.

I don’t know what there is to work with. Find a way to enclose that ice first. Disposable foam coolers, cheap power supply fans and some salt are perfect for DIY swamp coolers.

Basically the higher you can get the rate of evap the better cooling you can get. One thing you could try and do for pretty much zero cost if you can find someone with the stuff laying around:
Take an old cooler and rig up a fan and an exhaust vent (the cool air) at opposite ends. Fill it ~1/3 the way with ice, water, and salt. Put 3 pieces of wood in it to give it 4 air chambers (2 attached to the lid, one between then on the base). Then if that isn’t satisfactory put a fish tank bubbler in it

Haier was the brand, but there are others - this was about 15 years ago. Did not have the cash for a full-fledged window unit install, but instead bought a floor A/C for our 3rd floor Soho walkup. Bodged the window vent together with the plastic pieces that came with it and some duct tape and cardboard from the box to fill in the gap. After about 30 minutes we had to turn it down to Low because we were being frozen out of the apartment. $300 all in, sold it for $150 when we moved here 11 years ago.

Just buy a giant Peltier cooler, stick the cool side through your wall, stick the hot side outside, and don’t look at your electric bill...?

What if you put the ice BEHIND the fan? Or put the ice in some sort of tube so the air is forced past the ice and doesn’t just blow deflect when it hits the ice block.
In the thumbnail, I thought it was a frozen turkey.
