I took the family on vacation yesterday. We stayed in Indianapolis last night, and hit up their amazing children’s museum. Today we went to the Indy Motor Speedway museum (I’ll do a photodump after I get home next week), and took a bus ride around the track. We then headed east to Ohio to visit a friend. On the way my truck rolled 123456 miles. I was way more excited for that than I should’ve been.

Kinja'd!!!

We’re now in Springfield, OH to visit a friend. At dinner I discovered all the four door sedans that nobody buys any more. ALL OF THEM!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The place was packed, we were fully half of the customers who didn’t have an AARP card.

Also, this was the pork tenderloin sandwich that I had in Indy. I had to eat more than half of it before it would fit on the bun. It was amazing. You should be jealous.

The amount of fries you’ve received with that meal is criminal.

Was the bun round?

That’s a sweet Pig sandwich. That’s par for the course in Davenport and Dubuque. People here are disappointed if their tenderloin isn’t that big.

Have you ever been to Illinois Bar and Grill? Here’s one of their burgers.

Kinja'd!!!

Fresh cut fries are sold extra. They’re good but there won’t be room.

Normally I would agree with you, but they were very good, and LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT FUGGIN’ SANDWICH!!!

He’s down to three locations.

http://illinoisbarandgrill.com

Lemont is an ok place to take the family but to get the true experience the one on 47th (original location) is the place to be.

They do a Corned Beef for St Patrick’s day that will put you in a coma. It has to be close to two pounds.

How do I live 15 minutes from this place and not know about it?

I’ll have to check it out — Lemont is close by—

Uncle Ritchie’s Bloody Marys?

Ha- nope! Country House is our local burger joint. I can walk there.

It’s funny, I’m from the NW burbs, and work North. We’ve lived south a few years, but I still don’t know much of anything south of here—-

Don’t feel odd. I grew up in the Maywood area and it took twenty plus years to find the best restaurants.

The good stuff is all South.

Yeah, we need to explore more south and Southwest from here— I know Lemont and Lockport have good places—

Lemont is built over. It’s a shadow of what it was in the early 00s. The sweet spot there is “Tom’s Place”.

Kinja'd!!!

In the same family since 1924 and they have Blatz on tap. But it’s a beer and peanut kind of joint. More of an Archie Bunker than a family joint.

I went to college with a guy from Lemont- back in the late 80s/90s I used to go down there a lot, back when it was a small town and didn’t feel like a suburb at all. I’m sure I’ve been in Toms back then, but not recently.

Nicks? That was the burger joint to go to then.

Nicks is still there. Their burgers never lit my fire. It’s a nice dive bar but overrated for food.

Haven’t been there in close to 20 years probably - - several locals I knew raved about it, and I thought it was good but don’t recall it being as crazy good as they said.

I need to convince the wife to roll the dice on more joints we haven’t tried yet- -

Work that! Roll the dice! Local joints are always going to be the best. Even the worst local place is better than a big chain place.

Are you still in Illinois?

Kinja'd!!! "WilliamsSW" (williamssw)
08/04/2017 at 23:49, STARS: 0

oh yeah! I try to avoid chain joints if at all possible. We just need to try some of the local joints that are more than 10 minutes away - not easy with a 1 year old, but we managed to do it twice last weekend, once in the city for a change, even.

Yeah, I’m only 15 minutes or so north of Lemont— presume you’re in the area, too?

Were you in the Indy Children’s Museum at close? A bit before closing, they call on the PA for everyone to assemble at the top of the ramp for the parade. Of course all the kids gather there, and they give them banners to wave. They have the parents wait at the bottom near the exit. The music starts, and they lead the lot of them all the way down to where their parents are waiting with their coats, and right out the door. Pure genius.
