So you guys across the pond are all excited about the new Civic Type R hitting your shores. But you’ve missed out on the best one...and no, i’m not even talking about the legendary EP3.
The FK2. The one that was sold for only two years.
Compared to this beast, the FK8 is just tame...and mild.

Due to logistical issues I was the last journalist in the UK to drive this Black Edition FK2 Type R...a month after I drove the new FK8 .
It’s a PR nightmare. Having a journo waxing lyrical over a car you no longer produce, especially when you’re trying to shift the all new model.
So, sorry Honda. But the FK2 is THE best Civic Type R you’ve ever built.

It sure looks better than the new one! I’d love to try one... Ever since I spent a couple days with a Honda City CR-i, I’ve grown new interest in FF cars and I now need an Integra or a nice Civic Type R to play with :)
That City CR-I was awesome and will be hard to top with though...

Lots of fun indeed... That’s an extract of a video I did on it (I live in Japan and bought it to export. I do long form videos for some of the cars I sell). Grippier would be nice but other than that, one of the greatest FF car I’ve driven.

They only true Type R car I have ever driven is a USDM Integra. I have driven a car with an EK9 swap, but never a true Type R. The FK2 you speak of has a turbocharger, and that does not do it for me. The EK9 is also the only one I would actually put down my money and buy.

I bet that’s very similar in feel to my Peugeot 106 GTi. Weighs nothing, high revving, not too much power. Perfect!

But the turbo is so sublime in its use. It really doesn’t feel turbo’d in the sense an Impreza does.
