Anyone have any ideas how to clean leftover wine residue from a laptop keyboard without removing the keys?

I’m just asking for a friend. You don’t know him. He lives in Canada and doesn’t post on Oppo. His dad’s an astronaut. They told me that if I visit I can go for a ride on the shuttle.

My friend’s keyboard functions fine, and the keys aren’t sticky, but the compromised keys aren’t as clicky, which is very important for this friend, because they learned to type on a typewriter and they refuse to buy a new MacBook because the shitty new keyboards are too silent (and also don’t have any gaps between the keys, which is completely fucking stupid and makes touch typing impossible).

Some alcohol wipes/wet naps.

Should be able to depress keys surrounding and use a corner to wipe under.

Actually, no one can get you a ride on the shuttle

It has been retired

You are going to have to go under the keyboard

YouTube has a ton of videos

The only problem with that is that it’s already dry, because it’s 9 AM here and I’m not quiet at the stage where I’m drinking wine for breakfast. Yet.

I like the idea of combating alcohol with alcohol.

I recommend a good Bloody Mary - that’s usually the best cure for excess alcohol the following morning.

Like you clean anything on a keyboard. Isopropyl Alcohol.

Well, to be clear, you don’t pour it on the keyboard, you drink it. If that doesn’t fix the keyboard, repeat until the keyboard is fine.

Also the irony of using alcohol to clean up alcohol.

Maybe the wine residue is there because your friend drunkenly ordered some cleaning supplies.

I’ve had good luck with CRC electrical contact cleaner. There is a plastic safe version that should work great, it evaporates clean. You’ll probably use a full can though. Pull the battery out, or better yet, pull the keyboard out and spray the shit out of it. Job done.
