Got stuck behind a Mustang going 5 under the limit in the left lane last night. After I got around him, I saw the remainder of a fresh accident at the next intersection...

Kinja'd!!!

I couldn’t really piece together who hit who from which direction (this new intersection is ASS, btw) but it APPEARS that the young lady in the gold Honda clipped the rear end of the Equinox, which ended up near where those unrelated skid marks are (like I said, ASS intersection) and doubled back to its present location (according to dashcam footage).

This new intersection is renowned for its 55mph speed limit, near-blind crossings, and stupid flashing yellow “yield” arrows that only 50% of drivers seem to understand.

My assumption is one of these two was making a turn, and didn’t yield.... or someone ran a red.

Either way, the lady in the Honda (with its horn blaring a constant death-drone) was on the phone as she exited her car, calling 911 I assume, and didn’t hear my shout of “Is everyone okay?!?” seemed to be okay.

The couple in their 30's that exited the Chevy also seemed to be okay, the lady on her phone, the guy holding his shoulder :/

Enough other traffic had stopped to assist/gawk and I had my girls with me otherwise I would have also stopped. But by the time I got home a few minutes later, sirens were heard heading in that direction.

Oh yeah, the left lane guy. Thank you. I’m not sure how close I would have been or wanted to be to that crash. Thanks for holding me up those extra few seconds. You da reel MVP.

Flashing yellow arrows are the greatest. It’s sooooo nice being able to go before the next light cycle. Surprisingly when they started appearing in Seattle, everyone seemed to understand the function pretty easily.

We’re still trying to figure out roundabouts though...

A lot of places that have recently converted from traditional intersections to more limited “mandatory U-turn” intersections use them. I’ve never understood the confusion, but I see plenty of it. Especially people trying to stay in their lane during a 2-lane U-turn with other cars around them. Sure beats sitting at a red light for 5 minutes.

They literally gave us flashing arrows and roundabouts in one fell swoop, with NO driver training for older drivers.

I literally had to look it up too that just recently they changed the law here the drivers IN a roundabout had to yield to trucks longer than 40 feet entering..... like they can’t stop or go fast enough to get out of people’s ways or something.

Never talked about it on the news, no new signs, nothing.

You mean “still failing miserably at roundabouts”. I picked them up instantly in the UK, but nobody here has the slightest clue.

Then again, our roundabouts are the worst. Terrible designs with zebra crossings on all sides that cause fools to stop in the middle of them.

It’s been illegal forever up here in WA, but the problem is absolutely rampant. I’d estimate that over 60% of drivers go directly to the left and never leave the lane until they’re exiting the freeway. It’s so bad that I stay to the the right in traffic and let people in, since most of them just want to push into the left. I also end up at my destination far sooner because there are more people trying to pack into the left lane than there are people willing to drive in the other lanes.

I don’t understand our terrible drivers.

There is a roundabout somewhere deep in a Sammamish/Issaquah neighborhood that has stop signs at each entrance. Genius. American infrastructure, people.

Technically, all entrances are supposed to be a Yield.

One of the things I find bad about US street markings in general is that they put stop signs where they’re unnecessary. They should be yield signs unless sight lines are too short to simply yield. Most 4-way stops should be 4-way yields or 2-way stop and 2-way yield.

The obsession of our traffic engineers with stopping cars is one of the worst things about driving in the US.

Off topic, but I’ve been wondering: A busy intersection in my town has a right-turn arrow that is always green unless a (rare) pedestrian activates the “walk” light, upon which the right-turn arrow turns red. Once the pedestrian is clear, is it OK to make a right turn (after stopping) while the arrow is still red?
