They’re doing construction in my office and the plumbing is affected. There’s a sign up in the kitchen that says not to drink the water. Employee fills the coffee pot, ignoring the sign. When questioned about this she says she’s not going to drink the water but is going to drink coffee instead...

Depends on what the water concern is. If it’s a boil water type thing, that’s what coffee pots do, right?

Coffee makers just heat up water. Nowhere near boiling point though. Definitely not going to kill most bacteria.

They do not boil water. The temp will reach a max of somewhere between 195-205F. A boil water order usually means boil for 15-20 minutes.

Also, if they’re doing work, it’s about solid contamination, not bio-material, which is what boil orders are for.

TL;DR : She gonna die

coffee pots don’t boil water long enough and most likely doesn’t actually boil the water

The same thing happens to people when they travel somewhere they are told not to drink the water.

They buy bottled water, hold their breath when they shower, etc... , but then still get sick because they have a mixed drink with ice, and say shit like, “I don’t know why I’m sick.. I didn’t drink any water.”

“But Gran Fury, what is the materiality of coffee-ness and water-ness, is the water in coffee still water? Does it not change through our own agency of making coffee? If you replace the bristles on a broom and later replace the broom handle, is it still the same broo-ackghhgggggggrrrrrack”

Like me when I see all those Border Customs programmes from New Zealand and Australia.

Customs Officer: “Sir you ticked on the card that you were not bringing in any food, meats, vegetables, plants, seeds, etc... yet out of the 20Kgs of luggage you have 13Kgs of food”

Invariably Asian person: “no, this not food, this to make food”

Customs Officers: “sir you eat it, therefore it’s food”

(((also, the sheer number of times large amounts of food is tried to be gotten into New Zealand and Australia, do visitors, tourists, etc... think there is no food at all ther!?)))

Granted Brits do holiday often with a box of tea bags or salad cream but not kilos of meat, vegetables and fruit.

Cold bean water in my case.

That’s almost as dumb as the dumbest thing I have ever heard someone say.

That was “Well I’m a telemarketer at work and I call to Michigan all the time and I don’t get jetlag” (What makes this worse is that we were in NY, which is in the same timezone anyway.)

Darwin in action?

I was more concerned about the others that might drink the coffee not knowing the back story.

I don’t think solder has lead in it anymore so it would probably be just dirt and debris. Nothing lethal, but still...

Well lol.... I wouldn’t care if there was chunks of drywall debris floating in the coffee. When I come into work in the morning, I just need coffee and lots of it. My colleagues would agree that I need it too. I’m not cranky, just really really slow and my mind does not process things.

you concern for the others is valid. any concern for her is misplaced.

having warned her once, and highlighted the error in her thinking, I say let her pour her cup and go her merry way and you dump the remainder.

Isn’t it amazing how many Asians try and sneak food into the country?

And some of them are repeat travellers so you’d think they’d just pack cloths and that’s it by now.

If it was an item or two, meh nice try, don’t do it, but it’s bags and kilos of the stuff, stuff New Zealand has in their stores.

If I was working there. Well, I probably wouldn’t be working there long as I’d lose it after a few days and shout, ‘f***ing really, your bringing in many kilos of food and still ticked the boxes saying you have none. You know you shouldn’t yet you still do. What is wrong with you!?’.

Also, you’d think the airlines would learn and check the bags at check in. Why is it always the receiving airport that checks for drugs and food stuffs. The departure airport scanned for explosives, surely. So why not check for drugs and food stuffs then when they get a bag of 15 kilos full of food, they can turn to the passenger and give them a dirty look followed by, ‘really!?’
