It’s a decent car.

It’s a car for wankers.

Good? It looks nice.

Bad? 0-60 in 7.3 seconds, which is on par with a VW Passat 1.8T, a car with 35 hp and 1 lb ft of torque less.

I test drove one of these when it was new. I would call the performance “tepid”. Good build quality, OK handling, lots of styling, ICE seems a little slow. In my area these seem be driven like 3ers, but less aggressively and maybe more obliviously.

I currently drive a lowered Si, I’m already considered a “wanker” by 3/4ths the car world

Oh, sorry. I read that as “one thing good and bad about”...

I am kidding about the wanker car thing, except insomuch as all Lexus’ are cars for wankers.

Drives okay. Interior is nice. Slow as balls.

The new IS300 is a better car. That 2.5L V6 is horrid. The 3.5 they used in the IS350 and then de-tuned for the IS300 is a much, much better engine.

If you can only do the IS250, find a Southern car with RWD. It will make it far more entertaining to drive. The AWD sucks all the fun (what little there was) out of that 2.5.

The 2.5 wasnt fast. I have the prev gen with the 2.5. Go for the 2.0 T or the 3.5

Good: uhh...hmm... it’s a Lexus and it’s comfy

Bad: it’s a Lexus. It’s also pretty slow. Don’t know if that helps

The F-sport appearance package matches the aggressiveness of the predator face. Personally, I love it. Lesser trims look awkward.

The instrument cluster is bonkers. The center gauge physically moves side to side and changes color bast on driving mode or media options..

It’s loaded with tech. There are functions like remote start/ locking/ vehicle status from an app on your phone.

The touch/mousepad interface for the media/nav is a novel piece of hot garbage. But I suppose you might get used to it. Sort of like how I had to get used to the non-intuitive nature of the Audi MMI knob rotation.

Why don’t you get a second gen 350 instead?

I don’t like that generation; thankfully I’m far from buying a new car, so I an gathering lots of alternatives

The 350 is the better car. And the second gen, while no manual option is still a good car that is still modern. Plus the 250 is a heartless and slow

The Good: It should be a good, solid, reliable, durable car.

The bad: It’s not a wagon or hatchback... and it’s probably automatic.

EDIT: And I disagree with others who say that it’s ‘slow’. A 0-60 time in the low to mid 7 second range isn’t slow... it’s more than adequate for a daily driver.

It’s about as fast 0-60 as the Porsche Cayenne with the 3.6L V6... or about as fast (or maybe even a little faster) as a stock V8/automatic Fox body Mustang from the early 1990s.

A 7.3 second 0-60 time is more than adequate for a daily driver.

And that’s faster than a 1st Gen Porsche Cayenne with the 3.2L V6 (9.1 seconds) and is about as fast as the Cayenne with the 3.6L V6.

Probably slower due to extra weight and driveline friction.

BMW and MB add .2 seconds max (usually only .1) when they add 4Matic/xDrive. Lexus has no excuse.

While I do agree, it’s still slower than every other car in the segment.

Except for the Acura ILX automatic or hybrid. And it’s about the same as a 4cyl Acura TSX. Also about the same as a Lincoln MKS with the base V6.

You pretty simply don’t want it. The 2.5L V6 is a strange and stupid engine.

Either pony up a bit more for a used IS-350 or wait a bit for depreciation to hit the IS-200t models because the 2.0L I4 turbo engine in those are much better than the 2.5L V6s in the IS-250.

08/04/2017 at 10:19, STARS: 1

Don’t get an IS250. I formerly owned one and it was the worst car I ever owned. It wasn’t unreliable or uncomfortable - I mean, it was still a Lexus, but it was the slowest, most uninspiring car I’ve ever owned, and mine was a six-speed manual (garbage transmission) with the F ake -Sport package.

The steering was nothing special, and the suspension didn’t inspire confidence if you ever tried to cane it on a back road.

After all that, though, the worst part is that 2.5L V6. It doesn’t make good sounds, doesn’t like to rev, makes very little power for a 3500-3600lb car, and at least a few of the earlier ones have a pretty severe carbon build-up issue, though it may have been corrected by 2014.
