I’ve teased you long enough, here she is. A 1966 Ford Custom (downmarket from the Galaxie). Its powered by a 300ci straight 6 that’s been swapped in to replace the original 240, a 3 speed auto, 2 BLUE bench seats, and MANUAL single master cylinder drums brakes. I plan to clean it up, install some modern touches like power brakes, and drive this thing every day! And now pics!

Great car, and great engine. My father’s ‘79 F100 has the same engine and I’ve always liked how it drives compared to similar-era 302's.
On the brakes - are you going to a dual master cylinder or just going for a booster? I ask partly because I’ve been doing a ton of research on this very upgrade for my ‘61 F100. I have many thoughts.

These are handsome underappreciated cars. Funny thing, my dad had an 85 F150 with the same engine. Long run. Looks pretty solid - these things can rust.
My first car, or the first car I drove regularly (never legally owned it) was a 66 Galaxie 2 door HT, dark blue on the same shade of blue interior as your car, typical 390/4 with PS and PB. This was back in the 90s, when they were even cheaper than today. Ultimate guzzler, hilariously cold-blooded, but sounded nice with straight pipes.
I see the horn ring is gone from the steering wheel, they are held on with a plastic fitting that breaks easily. I remember mine snapped, and the local Ford dealer still had a stock of replacement parts.

Rust looks better than I would have expected, which is all that really concerns me on old cars anymore.

Awesome! Do you think it can pull a trailer with the Datsun on it? (seeing that it already has a tow bar)

I had a 72 custom all through college and loved that car. Now my brother has it painted up like an old cop car and its still going after 200k+ miles on the clock

Probably go for dual master with a booster, you can buy a kit from CJ pony parts for a Mustang for like $300, so I think I’ll go that route of it fits.

My chevelle had the original manual 4-wheel drums (though dual circuit) and all in all, I actually really liked how well you could modulate the braking and lock-up was super predictable. Sadly, with intent to drive in modern traffic, I decided it best to swap on front discs and swap the whole thing over to power-assist.

I recall it was a plastic ring with little raised bits, it snaps right in. Like most old cars, this has a good horn, so you will want it fixed just to honk now and then. Old wheels also look a lot better with the horn ring.

Yeah I like the modulation as well actually, it’s just having to apply so much pressure is kinda lame, especially in an emergency.

Yeah, when your butt is leaving the seat on hard stops, it’s a bit unnerving.
My favorite was the guy at the alignment shop, who pulled it off the rack and returned to car to me with a big smile, saying how he hasn’t driven a car with brakes like that in 30 years and it reminded him of something or other he had way back when.
