A Mototracer. Had seen an article on it at proto stage a few years ago. Apparently they exist now. It had a Swiss plate.

*I was driving the Pajero towing the trailer with the 505, obviously.

Swiss cars with lots of tools that fold into it.

Hmm.

what happens if you have to stop? does it have an automatic kickstand?

I remember seeing that (or something very like it) on old Top Gear years ago. It had stabilisers which popped out at low speeds to get around the “falling over because you can’t put your feet down” problem.

DO THE WHEELS COME DOWN AUTOMATICALLY? No, the stabilizer wheels do not come down automatically. They are controlled by a driver-actuated switch on the handlebar. There is safety-componentry built into the system, which prevents the stabilizers from coming down above a certain speed, and if the vehicle is leaned over.

Website has vanished so I guess they never got far beyond the prototype stage.

How often would I tip over until I would remember to put the wheels down every time?

Yeah, relying on remembering it might cause some damage

I know tools that fold into non-swiss cars too :)

This is one of my favorite vehicles!

The first iteration of the monotracer was conceived and built in the ‘70s. Early production models sold for over $60k, but the price has ballooned to north of $100k as they’ve added features. They built an electric version when they started chasing the X-prize (they won), but they say that the real reason they built it was because the electric version was faster.

The original outrigger control was pilot-only, but later versions include speed sensors which automatically deploy or retract them based on the vehicle’s speed.

Although they were originally a Swiss company, it looks like they’ve moved to the Czech Republic. I think they’ve always had problems with funding, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were bought out and relocated by an enthusiast investor. Their new website is http://www.peravescz.com/

They’ve use a bunch of different names over the years, including Ecomobile, Monotracer, Ecotracer, X-Tracer, E-Tracer, and now, Monoracer.

There are tons of articles and videos out there about them. Here’s a few just for fun:

wow, that a lot of info, thanks! :)
I could see myself driving one of these, but more in a daily driving / commute / fuel save than in a performance oriented way. I drive alone 95% of the time, this would be great, and given the look, I’d imagine it to be potentially very fuel efficient, and as a bonus, you’re protected from the elements. But at that price point, no way

I’ve had my eye on them for years! I have to pick up or drop off kids at least once a day, so this isn’t even an option for me right now. Perhaps one day I will find a way. I need to secure a test ride first! :)

Well, you wouldn’t fall over at high speed and falling over at low speed wouldn’t kill you, but it would be the death of the paint job.
