Old Ferraris change hands for 15-50 million, depending on the provenance and rarity and a few other factors. Depends which rich collector wants what. So the question is: If the real DeLorean from Back to the Future, not a replica, ever was auctioned by Universal, say for charity and signed by Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd with the appropriate hype, what kind of money could it fetch?
Both are sitting at the Peterson in Los Angeles right now. The screen-used car and what i’m told may be the most valuable of all GTOs. It made me think.
The 60-80 year old guys who pay crazy Ferrari 250 GTO money in this case are now dot-commers under 50 with similar money. There’s only 1 real one, as opposed to a few dozen GTOs. Is there a chance it could get 5m? 10m

It’s more of a prop than a car so it wouldnt break $1 Million. You’d make more off of the Wolf’s NSX from Pulp Fiction right now. I think Wacko is dead on and being pretty generous simply for charity’s sake.

I agree that it wouldn’t come close to the Ferarri. It would appeal more to movie buffs than car people and it would be kind of difficult to display it like you would other movie props. It would bring serious money, especially for a Delorean, but nowhere near 250 GTO money.

Deloreans don’t have the pedigree, racing history, or anything else comparable to a Ferrari, so you won’t see the crazy numbers of an original GTO. However, the car is probably as well known as any other due to the movie, so it does have some auction upside.
Only seven Deloreans were used in making the three (yes, unfortunately they made three) movies. Four were destroyed and there are only three remaining. Only one of those is in private hands.
It was the main car in the wild west BTTF #3, and it auctioned in 2011 for $541,000, which was towards the high end of its $400-$600k estimate.
So I would guess that the car above, used in the original movie, would go for over a million bucks if properly auctioned.
