The best truck ever there was.  And I will say that standing on Jebediah GMC's grave.

Easy to be a truck. Tough to be a Jeep.

Nice. The 5.3 is a sweet motor.

That being said, why not a 6.2? Are the 5.3's that much cheaper?

All aluminum 5.3 was way cheaper and 100% complete. Plus going from 220 to 315 HP should be a real noticeable difference. (Cam will fix this if it’s not enough)

315? I dun got stiffed :(

I’d be interested to see how the cam works out if you do that... I’ve been considering one for a long time but it’s hard to do stuff to your dd. Besides I’m cheap as fuck

Is yours a factory v8? You have to make do with only 300hp? Mines a regular cab so they never offered it with the v8...

thing with trucks is that they’re all good. I just feel that this one is best. threw gmc in there just to get a rise out of folks. that said if you’ve got a gmc that you can prove was on the road for 29 years before breaking I’ll buy it.

usually I curse henry ford, thought I’d change it up a little. That said look so good when nine hundred years old GMC will not. Neither will old yota but it’ll still run.

The early ones were available with a Renault 2.1 diesel, optional turbo. Of course like with anything else people have been swapping other diesels in. Merc OM617's (?) aren’t uncommon, neither are VW TDI’s. I know of a couple smaller Cummins swaps, and an old US-spec Nissan something or other, and one guy tracked down a diesel from a Mazda Bongo somehow.

yes it was a renault, turbo converted to n/a with some bizarro intake from some even more bizarro motorhome poking through the hood. I beleive the kia sportage (old) is a descendant off the mazda bongo. (full frame, but tiny)

Yeah, the Winnebago LeSharo (and one other) also used the same engine. The Winnebago dealer is one of the few places to find engine parts.

This MJ wasn’t in/around Regina, was it? I remember seeing one with an intake “from a motorhome” poking through the hood.

That’s right. I’m pretty sure it was deliberately throttled to stop it chewing up Silverados.

I had it tuned last summer, the most the guy could pull out of it before it started knocking was 5-6hp... same thing that had happened when he’d tuned another factory V8 Colorado. Even though I’d had him tune it for 89 octane after reading about the struggles with the other Colorado on his website. The tuners opinion was the exhaust was too small. From factory it runs 3" pipe to the muffler, then 2.5" for some reason (and like an idiot I replaced the muffler with a high-flow muffler without checking the exhaust on both ends).

I’d say his judgement is probably right. This is a guy that owns a Sierra with a 4.3V6 that’s been slowly massaged up to 225hp/298tq on nothing but a K&N and lots of tuning, and with a set of shorty headers added took him to ~235hp/325tq.

Interesting tidbit, that 4.3 comes from factory with 3" exhaust all the way back. If they felt they needed that for the 4.3, I can’t imagine the 1/2" drop in diameter on the Colorado is anything but deliberate strangulation.

I will probably use some kind of loud valve or an electronic dump valve so it shouldn’t matter too much for me.
