A California is barely a Ferrari so it’s right that it was barely on fire.

They used to say Dino’s weren’t really Ferrari’s and now they’re worth stupid money.

How many Dinos did they make? Under 4,000- not including the Dino 308 GT4 2+2, which in my opinion is an entirely different car since it wasn’t even designed by Dino Ferrari, but was designed by Bertone.

By contrast, the Ferrari California production line was pumping out roughly 6,000 Californias per year , at least   throughout 2008-2012, before the 2012 update.

Sorry, you cannot compare a Dino to a California.

yeah and the California has 450hp from an na 4.2L and is as quick as an F430 up to 60. It’s a Ferrari. More so than the Dino, which is now one of the most desired Ferrari’s.

I’m not trying to be condescending or obnoxious in any way, but you’re making my point for me. For Ferrari values especially, it’s not about the statistics of the car, but the amount the number of cars produced that determines value down the road.

Except I’ll grant you.... who knows about future NA vs. Turbo values... NA Ferrari values in general may skyrocket, the California might get a bump in value. But with the numbers produced, I don’t think it’ll reach Dino status. Especially because many collectors- the geezers who dictate the price of the Dino- highly respect the fact that Enzo’s dying son Dino penned the design for the car.

PLUS: despite the Dino having a V6, in my opinion it the Dino sounds better than the first-gen California’s V8 (heard both in real life, not youtube). But that’s my personal taste because I like how older cars sound.

Fine, I’ll actually put some effort in:

Your 6000 per year figure is incorrect , my guess is you got it from wikipedia? the source for that figure is based on an article that states it is for all Ferrari’s worldwide. in 2008, which doesn’t even count the California. autoblog.it

Most data I can find suggests it’s sold <6000 in Europe since 2009, and maybe 4000 in the rest of the world. All figures show it has sold less than the 458 and the 488 year on year.

If your assumption is correct, then the California should be worth more than the 458 and 488 in the future, therefore being perhaps more Ferrari than a 458 or 488?

Do I really really think this? no. But I do hate it when people call it ‘barely’ a Ferrari.

I had never intended to suggest the California would be worth as much as the Dino, and I still don’t think my comment intimated as much.
My intention was to state the Dino was once considered the black sheep of the family and yet now it’s one of the most desirable, so you shouldn’t write the California off as being ‘barely’ a Ferrari.

Nah, still barely a Ferrari.
