My wives old laptop has been running like shit, high mem usage and lots of page faults. So, I load up malwarebytes and MSE.
MWB loads quickly and scans quick, but uses 50% of the memory in background. Scanned clean, so see ya later.
MSE took about three hours to update definitions. I’m now over 6 hrs into a full scan and have 15-20% remaining.

i usually run Ccleaner before running scans (just eats all your cookies n shit...) thats normally enough to get my old laptop running a lil quicker tho

Maybe an errant app running amuck in the background? Anything installed recently? What about updates? Are you using Windows 7 or 10? Could’ve been a recent update that hosed something.

MSE had a huge overhaul after it scored the lowest score on AVTEST in 2012 &2013. They overhauled it; and since version 4.5 (they’re on version 4.10 now, I believe) it’s become a resource hog, but it actually does its job now against newer threats. But yes, it used to be MUCH faster.
