Kinja'd!!!

So as you can tell, I finally bought a car. For those who don’t remember, several months back I asked for advice regarding Celica GT-S’, and you guys delivered.

Well, as of today I am the proud owner of a 2001 Toyota Celica GT-S. This is a nice step for me as I also will be attending an automotive program in college this January (or September if I get in on the wait list).

But before I can really drive it I have to go through getting plates, insurance, etc. And even then, this thing won’t be seeing a road for a good while. Part of the reason being I don’t know if I’ll have enough money to balance out driving a car to college (though that would be ideal). Other factors include getting new tires ( the current treads are almost burnt out), the safety/e-test, potentially replacing the aftermarket exhaust, and of course, I still gotta learn to drive the thing as I’m learning to drive stick still.

The cars got a stage 1 clutch, so ya really gotta put your foot down to activate it, and there’s not a whole lot of play either (or so my dad and the previous owner say). It’s also got a 700W 5-channel Kicker audio system with a 12" subwoofer in the back. The audio is crazy good, but I am looking to downgrade the subwoofer in the trunk, since my cargo space is minimal at best.

Today my dad and I plan to go to the MTO office to get things sorted, and then after that I plan to buy a car cover (since it’ll be a while before she sees any roads methinks). First thing I’ll do before that though is vacuum the heck outta the car most likely, it could use a good rundown on interior detailing.

Anyways, there’s my update. If ya want to ask me some more about the car I’ll answer what I can. ;)

What school/ what kind of program?

Also I think you’re better off without a car cover. I’ve heard they trap moisture and do more damage then they prevent.

Nice car though, should be fun.

Heading to Niagara College, it’s pretty well the closest post-secondary campus to me. I’ll be taking a program in automotive, which basically teaches you to be a mechanic/technician. Went on a tour there a few days ago and it’s a real nice campus, including the garage area I’ll be spending most of my class time in. They also have one of the highest success rates for their mechanics (something like 70-80% of their graduates I believe get their Red Seal).

As for the cover, at this point I’m just looking for something to hide the car’s appearance since it’s unplated, but I might invest in a higher quality one in the future.

Thanks!

Yeah, from the photos she looks good, but she needs some good buffing (the paints looking quite grimy), as well as a cleaning of the interior like I mentioned (some leaves in the hatch, as well as some other nature bits). But I don’t mind, I intend to cherish this car. ;)

Enjoy, they’re fun. Keep premium in it if you plan to rev it to the VVTi-L levels where the cam kicks over to the fun stuff.

Also, tires will be a constant need, the GT-S was always tough on tires, front specifically. The weight balance, stiffer suspension and driving style just wears them down, it is what it is.

Indigo was my second favorite color on them, Carbon Blue being my favorite, but I would never buy the Carbon blue for the fear of ever having to color match it.

Thanks for the heads up on the tires. Previous owner said the current treads are 2 years old, and they look pretty well shot actually. My dad and I are looking at getting some Michelin PilotSports for the car, since we’ve had good experiences with Michelins.

As for the gas, the current tank he said has got some old gas in it, so we’ll end up burning through it this week probably and then fill it up with some 91 octane. After that though might just use 89, for cost reasons.

One of the funny things about buying it though is the colour matches similar to my parents ‘06 Corolla, which is an Indigo Ink Pearl. :)

It’s engine demands premium. Cheap gas killed my friends gt-s. 91 is already on the low octane end of what that engine likes
