How about a battery that when it’s replaced you need to tell the car’s computer it’s been replaced and if you change the Ah rating because you can’t find a battery with the same Ah rating as the original battery that’s another process?

Manufacturers all building their own touchscreens and interfaces, all of which basically suck, but none of them are the same. I can absolutely assure you that crappy informatics systems are responsible for a lot more death than Dieselgate.

Welded on bumper reinforcements (WJ Grand Cherokee and Pontiac G6).
Brake lines routed through a composite (plastic) radiator support upper tie bar, with the main ABS pump/module mounted just behind a headlight. Pretty sure this was an ‘09ish Charger. Blew my mind that an otherwise light front end hit pretty much trashed the braking system.

The intermediate shaft on Porsche engines should count. Supposedly had no problems if you drove the cars hard, but shat the bed if driven like normal people would. Who’da thunk?

I have a car that acts like the whole front suspension is coming loose on purpose in an attempt to muffle bumps, but I mean, it’s more notionally horrible than really all that bad in practice.
Still: A-arm moving around on its own and changing the steering, what the fuck.

plastic cooling components in BMW, plastic timing chain guides in Audis, basically any vehicle where plastics are subjected to wear or heat for extended periods. We all know they’re going to fail, just put it in the metal ones. Cheap out on something that won’t destroy my engine instead.

My favorite was the Mustang where the trunk floor was actually the top of the gas tank. They didn’t even bother with a piece of sheet metal to separate the two.
