It makes it super easy to park within the lines on the side of the street, and not park too close to a driveway:

The Camry is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned with a back up camera. At first I didn’t care much for it, but damned if I haven’t gotten so used to it now that when I drive our other vehicle I find myself looking at the radio when I put it into reverse.

Backup cameras and big mirrors have actually made me better at backing up. Because I can see!

The unintentional feature of the backup camera is being able to see behind you?

Backup cameras are great. When parking the Pathfinder we had last week, it almost made it bearable.
Almost.

Still don’t like it, for that very reason. We have one on our Subaru, but I refuse to use it about 75% of the time, just so I don’t forget how to look over my shoulder. I only use it when backing up against a wall or another car because the markings are sufficient to let me know if I can open the tailgate without hitting anything.

That’s like saying an unintentional feature of a headlight is that it lights up the road to allow you to not run over kittens.

I like how my brake pedal brings the car to a stop if I’m going too fast or if there’s a stop sign.

Back-up cams are great to line up to a trailer. no need to mode the trailer, or move the car a few times to get the tongue perfectly over the ball.

It’s super important to make sure the tongue is over the ball. Things don’t work correctly if that’s not the case.

I do the same in the garage, so I’m just far enough in to clear the door. I still prefer the convex mirrors to use for backing into spaces though, then the camera for how far back to go.

Yeah back up cams are really only good for getting the perfect depth. That and looking like a hero while hooking up a trailer.

I’ll use my backup camera after pulling into a space, to then back out to the point where my bumper is at the end of the space, more precisely than I could without the camera.
The logic here is, a lot of people are driving long full-size pickups, and even a midsize hatch would get hidden behind the beds. So, I don’t want someone pulling into the “empty” space and rear ending my car.
