Dropped the Infiniti off for the $2000 bumper repair. Thank God for insurance.
Insurance gave me this Impala, which I hate. It has the typical midlevel sedan meh driving dynamics, but beyond that, it may have the worst ergonomics of any car I have ever driven. It is horribly uncomfortable to sit in and drive.
I took the Sunchaser to Keith, my longtime most trusted mechanic. He has been taking care of my cars for over a decade, and kept my 2005 RX-8 GT running for the 7 years that I drove it daily. Some of you might asm why Keith wasn’t doing the mechanical work in the first place? BECAUSE I AM AN IDIOT.
In the other hand, Oppo is genius! The lower bolt on the front right brake caliper fell out, as many of you theorized. As it turns out, all 4 had loose bolts. (Thanks, Nikon!) Keith inspected the rest of the car, and declared it sound.
Keith is not a very expressive guy. When I told him someone else had worked on the car, he just raised his eyebrows a little. When he told me about the caliper, he said I was lucky that wheel did not lock up at speed when the bolt fell out. Totally deadpan.
He found my oil leak! There was a pinhole in the oil pan that he replaced last year. Oddly, it is a really hard part to find. They patched it. They found a brand new Toyota oil pan, which I had them order. If I have the last leak, I will be so happy.
Once he gets the new pan, I am wondering if I should take the old one to be more fully repaired. Is it even worth it? Last time, it took 2 weeks to find an oil pan in Indiana. I assume all the Toyotas in Indiana rusted to dust, leaving behind their oil pans.

Your Infiniti or the wife’s?
And what happen.
Last summer my wife backed her car it the the front of my pathfinder and caused over 4000$ in damages to the path. They changed the driver side light, fog light, trim and bumper. The repainted the fender too.

Nikon seems to be a body and paint guy, not a mechanic.
In your pics the paint looks good.

Since it’s pretty clear you’re keeping the car long term I would definitely say it’s worth it to have the pan properly patched. They’re only going to get to be harder to find as time goes on.

The pan was replaced last year and it already has a pinhole leak?

Our new truck is going in for body work when we get back from Seattle. I shudder to think what Enterprise is going to try and saddle us with

Do these Impalas have that rediculous seat fabric covered dash that the Cruze and Malibu do?

Does the chevy have the auto start stop? That’s annoying as fuck.

I have a feeling we are going to see lots of starter motor failures in 3-5 years. Repeatedly starting the engine like that has to be hard on them.

i’m guessing Nikon didn’t use any Loctite or equivalent adhesive on the caliper bolts.
