I’m going to the Monterey car show and all accommodation is too expensive.

Don’t get me wrong, I did try to book early. Early for me, that is - 2 ish weeks ago. I looked on travel websites occasionally to see if deals pop up.

Can any Opponauts guide let me in on any deals you know?

Right now, the only option I have is to live 40 minutes away and drive in every day.

No solid leads, but you might try airbnb if you haven’t already looked there.

Might be cheaper, and you might find something if you stay in Salinas.

That’s it, man. That week books a year in advance, and everything costs 4 times more than normal because it’s a week for rich people. There may be no-hookups camping still available at Laguna Seca (that’s run by Monterey County Parks), but even that pricing is jacked up significantly and would necessitate you buy track passes, which are $100 a day or thereabouts (well over double the rate of any other event). A lot of people stay in Salinas and Prunedale, but that’s likely booked up too. You’re not going to get a hotel anywhere near Monterey for less than hundreds of dollars a night. You could look in Santa Cruz, but that’s also peak summer tourist season. Not sure if there’s camping off the G-roads in Carmel Valley, night be worth checking. These are the reasons I just drive up for one day and only go to the track. Everything else is insane, and is not at all made for those of mere mortal finances.

Hollister or Salinas.

Two weeks’ notice is not “booking early” by any rational standard.

Book outside of the area and drive in. Traffic’s going to suck ass getting there, but Gilroy or even Hollister/Salinas is within a reasonable drive without having to live in a desolate shit hole.

Two weeks before now is still 5 weeks before the event.

I get that some people plan farther in advance. But yeah.

Second’d on Salinas. It’s not a bad drive if you get up early. Every year we go, we book accommodations ~11 months in advance. Usually air bnb

Not in salinas, for Carmel by the sea.

I understand. But that’s still way too much of an advance. I don’t know where I’ll be next year. Like geographically living. In the world. (but that’s just me personally. I can see that other people have more established lives.)
