Theory: Roads are cambered so water runs off. Driving along them, your car tends to gently fall off, which means you’re compensating very slightly to maintain a straight line by steering to the left. With properly set up steering accrumen, (look up Ackermann steering) your inside tire turns at a sharper angle than the outside tire. This means going down most roads you’re gently scrubbing the inside of the front left tire. You also scrub the front right tire on the outside, but much more gently because there’s less steering angle.
Interesting bit of trivia which is what made me think of this, there was a huge batch of XJ Dana30's that were manufactured wrong, the bolt holes for the driver’s side control arms were drilled slightly closer to the axle than was intended. This meant the whole axle had a tendency to steer slightly to the left. It went largely unnoticed in left-hand-drive markets because the steering compensated for road camber leading to straight tracking. In wrong-hand-drive markets, however, the manufacturing error lead to the Jeeps seeming to fall off the road to the left, requiring much more steering correction for the camber than typical. This was blamed on them being set up for driving on the other side of the road, so it took a while to uncover the manufacturing error.
