And it’s the perfect car for the elderly. A compact crossover. Technically an MPV, but that’s about the same. It’s a Nissan Almera Tino, the direct predecessor of the Nissan Qashqai.
It looks clean, low kms for its age (2005 and 142k kms), 1 owner. 116 measly ponies, tow hook, manual transmission (my mom can’t handle automatics), some extra options. Radio/navigation doesn’t work, but my dad just admitted they’ve never once used the radio in their current car.
I can’t wait to not drive it.

Haven’t seen one for ages. Not one of Nissan’s more successful efforts. My sister had one once and could hardly give it away.

That’s the exact reason they bought one. Can’t give them away (so rather cheap), but from a relational point of view it fits their needs perfectly. And is reliable.

...they’ve never once used the radio in their current car.
This blows my mind.

Mine too. I do 900 km (600 miles) in one go, by myself, relatively frequently. I can’t imagine doing that without music.
My dad told me they just talk. And look outside. Babyboomers...

I drive 45 minutes to work. If I didn’t have the radio I’d go mad. I’d make up stupid songs to sing like I do with the dog.

When I purchased our LX450, it had no head unit. I drove it just under 2700 miles (~4300km) that way across the country. Had a lot of time to think about stuff.

A 96 (96-04 model) Mitsubishi Galant wagon I initially bought for an old banger rally through the Alps and the Pyrenees. A car we fixed up and which became quite nice, so I gave it to my parents because they were driving a shitty 01 Suzuki Alto (size of a Fiat 500, but shitty). In the last half year the Galant has been developing problems without end so it’s time for it to go.
