This isn’t a hot take.
This is a fact.

But if you were buying a new Phaeton, you could probably afford it.

If you’re buying a new Phaeton you’re hoping the amount you’ve spent means it won’t break ;) Can’t imagine the shame that comes with having to ship your $200k new luxury sedan back to the dealer for repairs. Like it’s an old CAMRY!

I was tresspassed from a VW dealership when I was in high school cause I came after hours to look at the Phaeton they had on the lot. It wasn’t roped or barred off or anything, it was kinda BS. Anyway that’s my Phaeton story

The Touareg is basically a Cayenne that looks good. What’s not to like?

I love the Touareg
You should see my eulogy I wrote on it after they pulled the plug on the US Touareg

Same thing happened to me and the 2004 GTO
Good times.

How does the A8 rate below a phaeton? Isn’t the phaeton steel bodied still? I’ll take aluminum anyday for the rust belt where I live. And the styling is nearly identical. So I posit that the A8 > phaeton. And then you have the S8... but I’m a bit partial....

First one is correct.
Second one...well, whether or not I agree depends on the day.

Because the Phaeton holds so much more meaning imo.
I dig the A8, but the Phaeton was the creation of the closest thing to a real life German mad scientist. Ferdinand Piech wanted to stick it to BMW and Mercedes, and by god he did.

True, as an exercise in what the car means to the company, yeah, that’s probably right. As a standalone product, not so much. I guess the only equivalent would have been if when Chrysler and Mercedes were joined up, they would’ve taken an S-class, and made a Chrysler out of it. So in that light, that is pretty batshit insane, so yeah, I can see it now. Phaeton > A8. You win this round my friend....

To be fair, if you asked that a decade ago almost everyone would have liked the idea. It’s just not 2007 anymore.
