What’s the best design detail on the back of a modern car? I’m going to say the VW hatch handle hidden in the VW badge. They’ve been using it it for like 10 years now and it’s brilliant, it’s even easy to use as the badge is a bit over the width of a grown mans hand, and deeper than your average rectangular handle.

And a close second is the Sienna’s hidden windshield wiper, putting the unsightly wiper arm in the spoiler? Genius!

Bonus points: If the VW has a backup camera, it’s in the badge. It transformers its way out when you go in reverse. That way you don’t get all the dirt on the lens from driving around.

I do love that my backup camera is always clean no matter the weather no matter the road.

Conversely, I was fine for most of my life with a rear window and a rear wiper.

And if you shift in reverse with the wipers on, it gives you a courtesy swipe!

It’s really the little attention to detail that makes me like this car so much.

A lot of cars do that, for example, my Fiesta.

On the Fiesta ST, you can have clean racing stripes between the rear window dirt due to the holes in the spoiler.

I noticed this on a rental Beetle I had. It was a really cool idea except I worried what would happen if the car was covered in ice.
