I understand that electric cars don’t need grilles, but stylistically there’s a much better way to accomplish that than to make it look like Neo when Agent Smith removed his mouth.

Does it though? Why do they make cars with a place where the grill would normally be?
It’s like having a license plate holder in a state like Michigan that doesn’t require one on the front. Tesla’s have grill (place)-holders. It’s WEIRD.
There’s got to be something they can do to not give the impression they Matrix-Neo-Mouth-Removed-The-Grill.

You have it backwards. They initially didn’t plan to have a grille, but it was too weird/foreign, so they put a fake one on there to make it look more normal. The shape there is due to aero and pedestrian crash safety standards.
