Kinja'd!!!

The center F-1 on the S-1C of SA-500D at the US Space and Rocket Center. Not the first time I’ve seen it. Not the first time I’ve photographed it. Not the first time I’ve been awed by it.

In related news my oldest child graduated from Space Camp for the second time this year, which means I’m old (but proud).

In other news: traffic on the Friday before the 4th sucks.

Pretty awesome. I’m jealous - some of my coworkers are headed to our launch in Russia in a couple weeks at the Cosmodrome.

The amazing thing to me is: 50 years later the F-1 is still essentially state of the art. SLS block 1 doesn’t have them because solid rockets are cheaper, but F-1B may still fly again down the road, and that’s cool.

A single one of these makes more thrust than all 3 Space Shuttle main engines.

I love that alphanumeric dirty talk. Few machines are as awe inspiring as the Saturn V, I’d love to see this someday.
