Kinja'd!!!

After driving it for 230 miles, I’ve fixed almost everything and have some first thoughts.

As far as the fixes go, it hasn’t been too bad. Most expensive was tires ($502 but I have a $50 rebate coming), least expensive was fixing the headliner (a can of adhesive spray we had already).

Left to do is the driver’s door lock actuator ($25 DIY, $125 at shop), paint touch up, very slight leak from passenger side front door, cruise button doesn’t hold ($60 but I need to get the radio code before I can do that), and front door speakers ($30-$50, depending on how nice I want). Compare that to the laundry list of expensive things to do on the Lexus. It’s nice to have a car with very few problems and ones that are minor, inexpensive, and easy enough to do yourself.

First impressions:

torque? what’s that?

my old tires were crap

my new tires are GRIPPYYYY (BFGoodrich g-Force Comp 2 all-seasons)

minimal body roll plus the new tires make this a corner carver, so much grip

this car is really clean on the inside

a little more rust than I first thought, but I’m in the rust belt so no surprise. Nothing structural either.

it looks really good

it still makes good power and accelerates nicely

manual shift mode is a very nice feature

it looks like I’m getting around 20 mpg city, with hooning. Much improved over the Lexus, which was about 15 city with hooning.

engine is so smooth and eager to rev, it’s a real gem

interior is surprisingly modern for being 12 years old

Also, does OPPO sticker? I’ve got a few on my car, so far I’ve got all I want except an LaLD one.

That’s all for this update, hopefully I won’t have any more repairs to tell about.

I got the same tires on my Mazda and they are terrific. Very grippy and very smooth at speed.

I was a bit surprised at how smooth they are, I was expecting a bit of a rougher ride.

Which 116 rappers are you into? I mostly listen to Lecrae with a little Andy Mineo from time to time.

No shit; one of my wife’s best friends from HS and His wife both attended Oliviet.

He’s now an ordained Minister working with a small church locally. We talk infrequently and agree on most things despite my retreat from religion/ faith in general.

I’m excited, I’ve never heard anything bad about it, except from one person but they never tried to connect with other people.

Lecrae and Andy are my 2 favorites, although I’ve been jamming to Aha Gazelle’s new album.

I’ve seen a few posts about that from Reach’s Facebook page, but I haven’t gotten around to listening to it yet. Maybe I’ll check it out this weekend.

That’s a sharp car you have. Always like that generation of Acura design.

It’s pretty good, but a little different. I like it, but one of my friends who likes most Reach Records stuff doesn’t care for it.

And thanks, I really like how it looks too. It’s a really timeless design, still looks fairly modern (and far better than some of the beak-era Acuras).

I don’t sticker. Stickers are for children and people who are into planners.

You should consider getting better tires next go around and doing two sets: one for winter and one for summer. All seasons are a compromise, which is fine if you’re strapped for cash :)

I’m now a college student, so these were expensive enough

Cool, I like it a lot. What Lexus did you have?

Wow, I was thinking about buying a slightly newer one of those to replace my Corolla but I worry about the mpg difference while I’m in college and my car is rock solid mechanically right now. What issues did you have and did you like it?

I loved it and all the problems were more cosmetic/unimportant. Leaky sunroof and bad abs module being the most important. Mine was only $2500, so if I was you, I’d buy a slightly newer one with 100k less miles. Mechanically the only problem was a bad camshaft position sensor, which was $500. It was a good car with a very nice interior. Fuel economy wasn’t great, but not horrible either. About 17 city, 24-25 highway. I sold it just because I wanted something with fewer problems (almost all of which were known at time of purchase), newer, and fewer miles.
