You bought another S600? Or you encountered another?

I was hoping the S600 you found was a 60s Honda. Alas.

My dad’s friend overpaid for a 2001 S600 and it went about as expected.

An 18” from Pizza Di Roma “fits” in the passenger seat of an E92. They also do a 20” but good thing I didn’t try to fit one of those.

That only works on a post 2003 S600s. Anything before that is not working buying, at any price. His is a 2001.

I can’t even feel too bad for someone who bought an 01 without doing any research. Obviously no research was done or he wouldn’t have bought it.

The pre facelift w220 is such a joke. I sat in his and the seat was just uncomfortable, everything was poorly put together, and it smelled like sadness. He maintains that his car is cheaper to maintain because he doesn’t have turbos, even though his engine is literally a time bomb. To add to the hilarity, as he went to pull away a large cloud of white smoke emerged from his exhaust. I hate it a lot.

Exactly. Time will teach him a harsh lesson. The 275 is actually a pretty solid motor. It’s problematic parts (coils) are shared with his dumb 137. Plus of course he’s got an oil cooler to worry about, which requires head removal to repair, and just the general shittyness of the 137 and early 220. He would’ve been better off getting a 140 with a 120 engine (which I will never condone).

Why the hate on the W140 ? I wouldn’t drive one myself, but 140 fanboys cream themselves over them.

The average quote I build for them is over $10k from a basic inspection. Not to mention the fact I think they’re ugly and not terribly comfortable or rewarding to drive. In my opinion, they don’t live up to any of the hype. Not even close.

Jesus. Thier owners talk about them like they’re the second coming of Christ or something. What’s your favorite S class in terms of driving/ownership.

Their owners usually have a different perspective. Meaning they would otherwise be driving a 90's accord due to their budget. So regardless of how much of a rat it is, it will almost certainly still run and drive. Being an S class, it’s almost certainly going to be an epiphany of an experience and cause its owner to become absolutely enamored after spending most of his life with twenty year old econo boxes. I’m not knocking anyone with a low budget mind you, I grew up broke as hell and stayed that way years into my twenties, but you see the “nice” and expensive things through rose colored glasses because of it.

That’s really hard to say, especially without putting a budget on it or specifying a certain model. Probably a facelifted 221, as far as more realistic purchases go. 222's are fantastic but still expensive. Or a clean 116 (but I wouldn’t want to work on one for someone else).
