Kinja'd!!!

Its also been swapped to a 3.9 liter 4BT Cummins diesel and is a stick. I can’t find anything about it that I don’t love.

strange they would 4bt swap it instead of just a 12 valve that is much smoother and more powerful

Looks really nice except those wheels. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t stand newer OEM wheels on an older model.

I’m a gasser guy, so I’d have to yank the diesel and put a 360 into it. Then a set of wagon wheels and it’s ready. Okay, I’d want tripod mirrors. THEN it’d be done.

you NEVER yank a 4BT or 6BT for anything .

TBH the D/W series trucks really couldn’t handle the weight of the 6BT over time; the front axle housing would gradually bend.

So take down the reliability, and possibility of higher performance? Also adding a more complex engine?

Yes. I do not like diesels. They do not interest me. Also, Chrysler V8s are plenty reliable, at least the older ones.

I would. I’ve got zero interest in diesel engines.

But not even as remotely reliable as a Cummins.

I don’t know about that. I know of plenty 300,000+ mile Rams and Dakotas with the 5.2 and 5.9 LA/Magnum engines.

I read that as axle upgrade.

That’s probably the biggest part I don’t dig. Give me black steelies with big ol BFGs and I’m golden.

But there is a million mile club for Cummins with well over 100 trucks...

in that case, what about a crate 5.7 Hemi (with EFI) from Mopar Performance?

No. I don’t need to. It’s not that I think they’re bad engines, they just simply don’t interest me.

Not high revving, doesn’t sound good to me, smells like shit.

Well if you were going to Baja then I can see that you would want higher revs. Smell and sound is logical. Personal but logical.

So you’d buy another turk then....what’s with the lack of love for Diesel? It’s by far the best form of petrol for a truck to run on.

Kinja'd!!! "19JRC99" (19jrc99)
07/26/2017 at 17:25, STARS: 0

The lack of love is simply that I don’t like them. What’s with people having such a big problem with that? Not everybody likes the same thing.

Kinja'd!!! "TahoeSTi" (tahoesti)
07/26/2017 at 17:27, STARS: 0

You did decided to post this on a sweet diesel converted truck so i guess i expected some reason.

Kinja'd!!! "19JRC99" (19jrc99)
07/26/2017 at 17:30, STARS: 0

Here are my reasons. None of them have to do with practicality, because I don’t care about practicality.

I don’t like the way they sound. I do like the way a gas V8 sounds.

I despise the smell of diesels with all my heart. I barely notice the smell of a gasser.

And this one really doesn’t matter, but I like the sight of a nice V8 under the hood.

I don’t care about how much more torque it has, or how much better the mileage is. A mildly hopped up 360 can still provide enough torque, and will be infinitely more fun to me.

07/26/2017 at 17:43, STARS: 0

If you run used Fry oil they smell like McDonalds. Diesels do come in v8s. And if you put a turbo on the 360 now your talking.

Kinja'd!!! "19JRC99" (19jrc99)
07/26/2017 at 17:50, STARS: 0

Probably no turbo. I’d build it with a fairly decent cam, 11:1 compression, ported heads, a good aluminum intake, and a good carb. I’m old school like that. I’ve never smelled a diesel running fry oil.

Kinja'd!!! "TahoeSTi" (tahoesti)
07/26/2017 at 17:55, STARS: 0

At altitude I tend to prefer Turbos over NA, easier to compensate for the power loss.....that’s what keeps me on the turbo band wagon.

But I am conflicted about the turbo for my 302, part of me wants to put it on and go nuts the other half wants to build a stout NA motor much like you speak of.

Kinja'd!!! "19JRC99" (19jrc99)
07/26/2017 at 17:57, STARS: 0

302? Now you’ve piqued my interest. What’s it going in?

Kinja'd!!! "TahoeSTi" (tahoesti)
07/26/2017 at 18:01, STARS: 1

It’s in a Mustang...I keep the battery disconnect and another car parked in front of it I case it tries to go after my neighbors.

Right now I’m working (waiting to start) rebuilding the rear suspension and diff. Going to move to a 3 link setup with a Detroit true track. I have the parts just need the time.

I just need to figure out what to do after that....most likely the interior but hopefully i can find that on ebay.

Parts for the engine are starting to build up too. Ported and honed intake is ready just need heads to match up to....really like the AFR heads but part of me wants to keep with all ford parts and they have some nice aluminum heads for it.

Cool! My grandfather’s got an ‘89. Not the fastest thing, but he cut the mufflers off, so it’s fairly quiet at idle, but absolutely shrieks if you stand on it.

Yeah mines running an Off Road X pipe and flow master 40s, I’m told it can be heard from most places in town if i get on it. I used to bracket race it, fast it could do was 14 flat with street tires. With some Drag Radials i could most likely have shaved abit off that. So i usually dialed in at 13.9 - 14.4 depending on how was running that day.

I’ve got a neighbor with a ‘92 with (supposedly) a 363 stroker making 698 to the tire. It doesn’t have Flows, but it sounds just like it does. You can hear it all over.

I would love to build a Stoker for this car, I was all set on turboing it for a while, bought all the parts, and sold off a few....but now that i have other car’s with turbos i kinda want it to be NA...maybe time to sell the rest of the turbo kit and start buying stoker parts. I also like the idea of Root style blowers.
