OK. Who put that there and why?

1999 Corvette. So many dangerous gizmos in it. I need to pay to install gizmos to eliminate gizmos that are dangerous.

Anti Venom mod - install a washer on a detent bolt in transmission so shifts are smoother. Why the hell is that not done from the factory?

Skip Shift eliminator - Need to install this so car will stop forcing me from shifting from 1st to 4th. Why the hell is that not done from the factory?

I should probably also eliminate ignition switch. Use a screw driver or something... just in case.

Fuel mileage.

Doesn’t the manual even say “do not under any circumstances unplug this wire under this panel because you will not meet mileage estimates”.

It’s not just a wire. It uses throttle position throttle position to determine what gear you need to be in. This helped avoid a $1000 gas guzzler tax on a bunch of cars

It’s a 5.7L V8. I think it’s expected to burn 4 dinosaurs a mile

Corvettes get surprisingly good fuel mileage - my Dad has a C5 and regularly gets 30mpg on the highway. Tall gearing + aero + lightweight.

Skip-shift only made sense when new, like Sweet Trav said, to save guzzler tax and probably help raise the brand’s CAFE average.

I guess that made sense when new. Now that it’s almost 20 years old, I want to shift properly. 1-2-3 etc... Just makes me angry no other manufacturer expects this from their customers.

Like I said in the other thread, the Anti Venom is mostly for cars with short throw shifters. Stock shifters don’t get the same effect.

As for the skip shift eliminator, I think it’s a cool concept to save on gas. Many people don’t realize how much usable torque this car puts out.

Gotcha. I asked Mark and he said the same. It’s mostly for short shifter stuff. So I will have to adjust shifter as per froggy video and flush fluids.

The skip shift was to trick the EPA to get better ratings so the manual cars do not get the “gas guzzler” tax. By making the car shift from 1st to 4th under the throttle parameters used in the EPA testing, they get better economy. If you take off harder from a light it will allow you to engage second. That or severely short shift, but what the point.

But that is why GM uses the skip shift to this day. Event my GTO benefited from this saving its first owner $1000 over buying an automatic. They have been using the skip shift since ‘89 with the ZF transmission if I remember correctly.

I feel like as soon as it leaves the dealer lot, it should be instantly retrofitted with skip shift gizmo.

Trump is getting rid of EPA at least to some extent. Go 2nd Gear!

I mean if they just get rid of the gas guzzler tax then there isn’t a reason for the skip shift.
