*Obviously* GM just makes magic V8s that get 60 mpg.

Kinja'd!!!

Surprisingly I wasn’t coasting when it was saying this. It says 99mpg when you coast.

I’m seriously enjoying normal modern car toys too much. Like, having keyless entry again is seriously the best thing to me.

Mine will say ‘99.9mpg’ if I let it coast down a hill for a few seconds. But I get 45-50mpg anyway so I’m okay letting it have it’s fun from time to time.

I don’t have any experience with GM’s magic 60 MPG V8 (lol) but my Mustang’s 5.0 managed to average 27.3 MPG on the last tank of gas, all while running 70 MPH on the highway. That just doesn’t seem possible with a 435 HP engine. Like you, I am enjoying my modern car and it’s amenities!

Mines usually at 15mpg, or less if I’m accelerating. Better than I expected given my truck hardly ever sees highway honestly.

In reality I’m averaging 15-ish over the course of a tank, which is still better than I thought a large V8 truck driven entirely in the city would get. I wish I was making 435hp though...

Displacement on demand is pretty rad. We drove our Tahoe from Detroit to Cape Cod stuffed with people and luggage and averaged 24mpg. I couldn’t believe it.

My Subaru says 99 mpg when coasting and averages in the high 29's but it is also a gutless wonder.

Outside of my concerns it’s one day going to eat lifters or start burning oil like a mofo because of the DOD (mines a late 2010 so it probably never will, but I’ve seen enough in at work I’m paranoid), it *really* does help fuel economy.

I’ve never had a car that averages over 18ish. High 20s average sounds heavenly.

Yep, that’s pretty good! I’ve got an ‘09 Silverado 4WD with the 4.8 in it, and it has averaged 15.2 MPG since I bought it 8 years ago. It gets used for a variety of tasks... commuting the few miles to work, hauling lumber on occasion, sometimes pulling a trailer. I rarely do any city driving with it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make anywhere near 435 HP either!

I hypermiled our work truck a 2012 chevy 2500 4wd Duramax and got 21.5 on a 250 mile drive, once only once. I hate driving it like that.

15.2 without having active fuel management, sounds about right. I almost bought an ‘09 LS 4.8 RWD before buying my ‘10 LT 5.3 4x4, the 4.8 was a little slow but not a deal breaker, the hidden rust on the other hand was.

Hypermiling a diesel with 750 ft-lbs of torque under your right foot sounds like a test of self restraint.

I was off on the mpg a little here is my write up. I am a bit sad now we just got rid of the duramax for a f350. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/hypermiling-a-duramax-1790285527

I used be able to hit the 90's im our Trailblazer on instant. Though my average was a pretty consistent 17... I wouldn’t know why... I would never abuse it...

Doesn’t have to be gutless to get that, only aerodynamic. My Merc has 460+ hp and 530+ lb ft torque from it’s V8, weighs a ton, and it gets 26-27 on the freeway if I drive 65 mph. Only drops to 25-26 mpg if I go 80-90 mph for a sustained time.

Is that combined? I get around 25-27 on steady highway driving in a superchargered V8....

My driving consists of a lot of city. Plus my previous cars were a GMC Safari with a 160hp (when new, mind you) crude TBI V6 straight out of the 80s, an E36 M3 I romped on any chance given, and an S10 with the same crude V6 as the Safari just with TPI.

No DoD/AFM, fully loaded. And “driving to get there” for the most part.

Most of the time I’m at 17-18 (imperial) MPG... I simply do not have the self-restraint to drive easy

Damn and I’m over here trying to squeeze 20mpg out of my 02 S10 ZR2 on the highway. I’m getting 23lbs injectors installed right now I hear it can gain 4mpg out of them.

I feel your pain, my single cab, short bed, 2wd, 4.3 5-speed S10 took some babying to get over 20mpg highway.
