Nissan should sell the NP300 here

It’s already made in Mexico (their decision not to sell it here predates Trump by a longshot, and NAFTA won’t be repealed anyway)

If VBW sold the Amarok here (why they don’t make it in Mexico I have no clue!) they could totally recover from the cheat box scandal rather quickly

I presume that the NP300 is smaller than the Frontier? I wonder if it would meet US crash standards. If so, it could sell here.

A few years ago, I was in Argentina for two weeks, and there were Amaroks everywhere- that thing is neat, I’m sure it would sell easily here.

It’s actually the same size, but it only comes with 4 cylinder engines which I’m sure it’s the reason why it hasn’t started selling in the US. I guess they want to create a new pick up like the Hilux/Tacoma.

It actually had 4 stars in EuroNcap tests which is not too bad:

The NP300 replaces the Navara (a.k.a. Frontier) in the Asian market, though many of those markets still sell all three generations simultaneously (D21/22 [Hardbody or its Frontier descendant], D40 [current Frontier/Navara] and the new NP300 Navara).

It’s expected that the NP300 will largely underpin the next-gen Frontier with aesthetic changes to suit US tastes, like the Colorado and incoming Ranger. I’m sure Nissan will stick with a local engine (as they build their own in the US), frame (same design, local materials) and drivetrain bits. Nissan also has their current partnership with Cummins, which was advertised in a skunkworks diesel Frontier concept a few years ago and is heavily highlighted with the new Titan, I’m certain they’ll try to do a diesel version as well (and, of course, you can go overseas and buy a diesel NP300 today!).

I think the other manufacturers have been afraid to cannibalize full size truck sales because they’re so profitable. But Nissan is trailing the pack, and has been making the current Frontier for about a million years now, and they need to replace it with something - this (with a V6), or a new Frontier. Either way—

I’ve seen one with Mexico plates in SF, a VW one too.
