Well, I bought it for £50 2 years ago from a colleague of mine. I was walking him through how to rebuild his carbs, but he just couldn’t get it right and there were lots of other little bits and pieces so he got fed up and asked if I wanted it. For £50 it’s pretty much impossible to go wrong. Got it, rebuilt carbs and got it running, but never really could be bothered to get it fully done.
Roll forwards 2 years and me and a few mates manage to get tickets for the Isle of Man TT, and you can’t own a motorbike and not ride it to the TT so it’s getting done ASAP this year so I can learn to ride for next year.
Started off like this, which looks a bit pants really. Not too bad, just boring.
So I’ve cut down the seat, stripped the fairings off, made a new pared down frame at the back, painted the frame and engine black, rebuilt the brakes, rebuilt the carbs, K&N filter, new chain and sprockets and a little strip-light at the back.
Still to go is rebuild the forks, make a new exhaust and silencer because the existing one is just god-awful from the collector back (the headers are probably awful too, but I can’t be bothered to make new ones of those yet), number plate bracket, wire up the lights, new tyres, new bars and then learn to ride the damn thing ;)

When did you get so unambitious? Next step for you is surely building a dyno to measure power before and after you fit the new exhaust :)

I’ve seen them for sale every now and again, sometimes for very reasonable prices. I think the neighbours would stage a coup though!

Neighbours won’t complain if you offer to dyno their car/bike/dog. Who doesn’t want to know the power output of their dog?
