Kinja'd!!!

One of my new missions in life is to understand everyone and everything and all that I can. But I’m very much struggling to understand and rationalize any possible logic, emotions or reasoning behind what I’ve just read here .

USING A BOOK TO BLOCK .50 CALIBER HANDGUN?!? I remember when Mythbusters tried this out and it sorta worked with a .22, but failed when they tried a .40SW or a .357....I don’t care how thick the book is, it’s not stopping a .50cal handgun round, but the unfortunate body behind it probably will. :(

As dumbfounding as this is, it sucks. Have a car.

Don’t waste your time. There is no logic to be found.

I posted this earlier today under the headline Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. This couple had a history of posting stupid stunts in an effort to get clicks/likes. It seems that in an attempt to one-up their last stupid stunt, they carried out their last stupid stunt. Clearly, they didn’t think this one through. Stupid is as stupid does.

I don’t believe that, there has to be something.

Logic dictates that you never point a firearm in the direction of something you do not intent to kill. That holds true even with a book in front of them. And ESPECIALLY when the weapon is a .50 fired from a foot away.

404 Logic not found

50 cal? Being youtoobers, did they not at least search on “50cal ballistics”? It might have led them to realize....

Oh, what am I saying? That sort of forethought isn’t part of this story, is it?

50cal? A book? Stopping a 50cal round? Oy vey.

Sometimes it’s just stupidity. There are some really not bright folks out there, now there’s one less. I feel bad for the kid and soon to be kid, that sucks for them. But F the idiot parents.

You never point a gun at anyone – let alone fire it– unless you intend to kill or maim. As simple as that.

In a way it reminds me of those little kids that managed to get into the bear enclosure of some zoo, many years ago. It is not that they were reckless; they simply did not know the difference between Yogi and Boo Boo and real bears.

It ended badly.

The logic is they wanted to be YouTube famous with the accompanying fame and money. Stupidity ensued. They cared more about clicks and potential ad revenue than thinking through a stunt. There are many videos showing how powerful the desert eagle is. 2 seconds of research would’ve prevented this.

This comment is gold though.

If anyone EVER wants to pull this trick off, use Hillary Clinton, “Hard Choices” as the book. No reader, nor 50 Caliber pistol round can make it all of the way through this book!

I was talking to my coworker about that this morning. Why wouldn’t you at least do a test fire beforehand to see if the book could stop it? Sad to say, but I don’t feel bad for either of them. They both were so profoundly stupid that society is clearly better without them.

I just read about this but I did not know it was a .50 caliber.

Quite likely, the body isn’t stopping the .50 cal round either. Exit wounds are....um.... nasty.

Grant Nelson’s family filed suit in Cook County court Monday against Walmart and two companies that handled security for the retailer’s Skokie store. Authorities allege that 16-year-old Eliza Wasni stole the machete and the knife from a Walmart about 3 a.m. May 30, then got into Nelson’s car and hacked and stabbed him to death moments into the ride.

The logic in this case is that the couple wanted to be a famous and inspiring YouTube teen family. According to some news sources, he’s previously put bullets into other books and they didn’t go through. So he thought that this would work just fine.

Well, obviously some variable must have been changed (different caliber bullet? Different book materials? Different distance??) and that didn’t work out as planned. Unfortunately when you make mistakes with guns, they don’t tend to work out very well. It’s sad, and it happens way more than it should. :/

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

There area lot of people who take way too much risk than I ever would, all for the sake of YouTube hits.

The only gun I would trust a thick book to stop is an airsoft gun. The whole point of a live round is to cause injury by sheer penetrating force.

There’s no way they have a case right? Like how is walmart responsible for someone stealing their merchandise and choosing to murder someone with it.

I don’t think so. The whole suit hinges on Walmart personnel having made her as shoplifter, and then failing to stop her from leaving the store. Their policy on scanning receipts isn’t uniformly enforced, and Walmart will only state that they have the footage from that night, so it’s unknown if any of their loss prevention people spotted her or not. They might settle if this threatens to drag on, but if it goes to court I would be surprised if Walmart lost.
