My grandparents got an electric stair lift to help my uncle who’s in a wheelchair. They needed to get an elevator permit for it. WTF Michigan.

My dad has been an elevator mechanic for 26 years, that sounds right. It classified as an elevating device, & is put in the same group of handi-cap lifts, elevators, & escalators. It probably needed a permit, after enginners made sure the wall could support weight of the lift. You would not want the lift falling if the wall while your uncle is using it?

The state no longer requires permits for residential lifts. Your municipality might still require one.

“WTF Michigan” indeed.

I thought your post said “Electric Chair” at first, and was going to say.. You’re going to need a permit, for sure
