I have a friend looking for a reliable CUV in the $10-12k range. He is a realtor and puts about 30k miles/year on the car, and needs something that won’t be terrible in front of clients.

Kinja'd!!!

I have sent him a number of different listings: 9-4x, Sorento, Edge, Venza, Escape, Equinox, and a dozen others. He is most interested in the SRX, there are some Luxury 3.0's in his range catching his eye.

So, what can Oppo tell me about the SRX, 2010-2012?

They are as slow as molasses. Seriously. But other than that they’re a decent car. The tech will be fairly dated, but for 10-12k, pretty much anything will be. Luxury isn’t very high up the food chain for Cadillac trim levels but if he’s just looking for something that makes him look competent and gets him around then it’ll work well.

Lincoln something. They don’t make you look like you make too much commission.

My boss has an SRX, or rather his wife does and they both LOVE it. I helped him source it. It’s a 12' wit the 3.6. He paid around 20k a couple of years ago. They haven’t had any issues with it other than someone closing the garage door on the tailgate.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in it, but my wife tells me I’m more of a car snob/motorcycle enthusiast than a car enthusiast these days.

2012 got the better 3.6. The 2009 - 2011 had a 3.0 or a turbo 2.8 from Saab. Nice SUV, but mileage isn’t the best. I had one as a rental a few years back. 22mpg average.

My mom just bought a used 2013 SRX with the 3.6 engine and all the options. Has about 30,000 miles on it and I think she paid around $22-24K for it. I haven’t driven it, but it was very comfortable riding in the back seat for 2 hours. Seems to be put together very well and it looks pretty good for a crossover. If they are available in your friends price range I think it would be a great choice.

Buick Enclave. SRX is cramped.

It’s true, see my other reply, you don’t want your realtor ballin, nor do you want them to be looking like an amway salesman on their way up the pyramid. You need to stike the right balance. Lincoln or Buick. Those work well. Look classy and age well. Most normal people would be hard pressed to tell what model year you were driving if you rolled up in the lincoln or an enclave.

My realtor drove a Mercedes. It made me think she was getting too much of my sale.

The 3.0 is awful. Tell him to find one with a 3.6. Otherwise, they’re nice CUVs.

I would suggest a Juke, but it has to presentable in front of clients. So a MKT maybe?

Is he transporting clients? I like the SRX, but it’s tighten the back and headroom is lacking for taller peeps.

If he’s looking at an SRX, have him look at an RX, MDX, RDX, and other crossovers with “X” in the name.

I think the SRX is a fine choice for what you’re describing. Just avoid the ones with the Saab 2.8T V6 like the plague.

My dad has an ’07 9-3 Aero convertible with that motor. It’s a nice slightly sporty comfy cruiser with lots of torque, decent handling, unfortunately too-light steering, and excellent seats. He bought the car brand new and has put a few (maybe several?) thousand dollars into engine repairs. I don’t know the full details but it hasn’t been cheap to maintain. But he’s rich and paid cash for the thing so he’s keeping it on the road.

you also don’t want to pull up in a sports car. One realtor pulled up in a Mustang. I couldn’t take him seriously. Dude was in his 60s.

Actually depends on markets, I think. My friend’s parents have been agents for years, they don’t drive anything but Mercs and BMWs, higher end ones that is. Went from E-Class, S-Class, back to E and now has a CLS 550. Also had a 5-series and my friend himself jumped between the E-Class, 3-series and C-Class.

They said anything less, clients won’t even get in your car to go look at properties.

Yeah, no sports car. A sedan of domestic variety, but not the lowly base models, a Buick, Lincoln are both acceptable, and a caddy is okay as well, but might be a little flashy. No escalades, a Yukon Denali though, perfectly acceptable. Funny how we judge realtors. I think I’d even be okay with a new minivan, but you’re really limited to the Pacifica right now due to the domestic limitation, but if they went for it with a minivan, I wouldn’t hold it against them if they went with the Honda or Toyota.

So much judgement right? I pulled up to an open house and the realtors car was an a5, so yeah, not following the rules buddy... the house wasn’t for us anyway.

Just as a heads up, any GM product with the 3.6 and higher mileage is probably gonna have a timing chain cover leak.

Honestly he would be much better off getting a CTS or STS. The SRX is ok, but we see them in here a lot for issues. To top the all off, they are just hideous and I wouldn’t want clients to see me in it.

This is true, I’m looking at it from the step or two down from million dollar homes, but if you’re in the business of selling something high end, then yes you are right. I forgot about the high end market.

They get that cheap already?

The SRX is a massive piece of shit. I’ve driven a 3.0 before and it was absolutely horrible. Could not believe it when my folks told me they were spending $60,000 on one. They’re also made in Mexico, which is a little strange considering Cadillac is supposed to be one of the big American luxury brands.

Also, if he plans on getting one with more than 50,000 miles on it don’t. The only thing that saved my parents was a warranty. That thing was more unreliable in one year than all three of the Audis I’ve owned. Combined.

Just have him get a Rav 4 or something.
